hi Guys, Has anybody found a way to wire in an IPOD to the standard stereo on the Gen 3? I've got an Itrip at the moment but its a real pain. Would have been nice if there was an aux jack on the factory radio.
Spoke with a fitment centre the other day as I wanted to install a bluetooth handsfree kit as well as an iPod connection. The Gen 3 does not have a standard ISO connector, so they have to use a custom harness with plugs to convert. They quoted me around R3000 for the cabling only. It is cheaper to buy a new radio with an AUX or iPod input.

This is a source of much irritation in my life as well.
I use a tape adaptor to the ipod and works well, better quality than the fm transmitters.
Ive spoken to the radio fitment guys and they reckon the Parrot systems are the way to go, seen one on a Hilux and not bad but basically bypasses the in car system..

Not from my side Gerrad, I did try hooking up a blue tooth module to my ipod (Available for motorcycle comms. application) but it became too much hassle to pair it up each time I switched off the ignition, so back to the itrip for now. I'm over in Asia now and am busy looking around. will let you know if I find anything.

I understand the need for trying to keep the standard radio, but I can tell you that in the end it just makes MORE sense to buy an aftermarket radio with Ipod connectivity and a usb port. I have gone through all the motions and in the end succumbed to a new radio which has an ipod connection. The ipod now happily lives in the cubyhole and gets charged while being used, switch off automatically with the ignition, controlled on the face of the radio, one cable to unclip if I want to use Ipod seperately. It really is the only solution in the end.
The Sony DSX S100 also looks like a nice option as it has a tray to hide your ipod inside the radio.

Hi guys
So besides using the parrot system is the only other solution to change the Radio unit? but if we do that, what will it affect? Will it just not show the radio station on the Lcd display? because then maybe its not a bad idea to replace it with a front loader with an Aux out or one that has an IPOD output.

On my 2001 with the grey LCD display I only lost the radio display. All else stayed the same.Ash wrote:Hi guys

had the same issue, just replaced my std radio with an aftermarket sony with aux plug. i now use my iphone and ipod like crazy. the same radio i bought for R900 then with only a aux jack, you can get the same price range a aux and usb port. maybe look at getting a all in one - aux, usb and bluetooth
