Gauging interest - Pajero Club 2nd Birthday National GTG
'lo all

There have been vague mutterings of a national get together.

What I was thinking is that June 12th 2011 represents the Pajero Club 2nd Birthday and this presents a perfect date (IMO) around which we can plan a national get together.

Now I know it will be winter, but if we choose the right area we don't have to worry about much more than a little cold.

My initial thoughts are somewhere around Graaf Reinet, or southern Free State perhaps. Wherever we choose we must try avoid it being more than 800 to 1000 km from any member location (except for those poor buggers who live in Limpopo or something.

Your thoughts?

Perhaps we can persuade Jenki or Robin or some of our other foreign members to join us for a Tjop 'n Dop. ;)

sounds good. southern free state sounds fantastic. Maybe even eastern cape as it is truly beautiful here.

I highly recommend Ferndale as fantastic camping place with nice long trails.

Sounds good to me,

Except I'll have to take out a 2nd bond for the petrol
Re: Gauging interest - Pajero Club 2nd Birthday National GTG
Hi Simon. Would it have to be over that specific date, or could it be at the end of June/during July? Only reason i'm asking is that I'm away on that date (until June end).
Thanks
Negativety and Non-enthiusiasm are the only obstacles we shouldn't encounter "

Freestate sound very cold to me...Maybe we should consider Mozambique..I know it is a lot further for the guys down South, but then we can make it a propper holiday.

We will be in, wherever it will be held, if it doesn't clash with my annual hunting trip.

I'll bet you that you can then count out almost everyone from the Western and Eastern Cape - last Moz trip cost nearly R8000 in fuel

Also that kind of trip is simply not practical for 20 plus vehicles.

If it is in winter, the coastal regions would be obvious choices.
For obvious reasons, I think the East Coast (Wilderness to Port Edward) would be best, for the following reasons:
  • reasonably "central"
  • excellent winter weather (moderate temperatures, less wind and rain)
  • excellent out-door destinations & 4x4 routes.
The Transkei would of coarse be ideal. Dwesa eg has both self-catering chalets and camping facilities.
Places like Tsitsikama (Storms River Mouth) could work as well.

I have my reservations regarding the commitment of members, though.
I have seen to many late cancellations, 'no-shows' etc. not only on this forum but on others as well.
The only way to get people to commit, is by asking them money. :D

Maybe we should work out a system by which the cost of travelling is compensated in a way (subsidised by those living close to the venue)?
