Gen3 Heat gauge vs. EGT gauge
Hi,

Its a case of Deja Vu as i was reading the topic from Gold member.https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... f=27&t=974

i am also new to the club and also with in 3days from purchasing my 2001 DID Gen3 the heat gauge started to act like a rev counter, with out the engine being overheated.

This is not the first time it happened to us as my Dad's 2001 Did (auto) did the same and problem solved when the CCT board was replaced (2x Thermostats and 3x sensors later) in Nov 2008 and haven't acted up ever since.

My Question is more the the point where the newly purchased DiD is fitted with a gauge that shows the EGT,
my knowledge about these technical gizmo's is zero.

The EGT average between 180 C when running idle and between 280 C and max 370 C and at constant speed going downhill and up hill.

Is the EGT gauge a good indication if the engine is overheating or not?
Is the average of 305C (Attachment) good for the engine at normal driving speeds?
What is the MAX i should be looking for to know there is something seriously wrong?

Thanks
EGT 305C
EGT 305C

Re: Gen3 Heat gauge vs. EGT gauge
A quick search will yield thousands of hours of reading but in a nutshell 650 celsius constant is safe and quick burst no higher than 700 is safe.

If the Di-D is running optimally you should never reach those temps. (careful of injector cleaners - they increase EGT)
