Can I get out of this one if I'm referring to your spare? That looks like a HT
The spares are Cooper Discoverer ATR
I do not like the really chunky treads as I do not do a lot of mud (mostly Kgalagadi and Namibia) and find them a bit hard and noisy. Also the very popular BFG AT is a bit slippery in the Cape rain. They look very cool though.
The new Scorpions look like HT tyres but are rated AT. I spent over an hour talking to the Pirelli technical rep about this. He explained why the new tyres look different to the previous, more chunky, model. The reason is that the modern high-end 4x4's are very powerful and are capable of well over 160-180 kph on the road and the tyres need to cope with this as well as having good grip off-road. Therefore the Scorpions use special ribs and compounds to give sidewall strength and ride comfort. I will buy them again like a shot. They are perfect over rocks and sand.
