The PITA part of changing the slippery fluids:

• getting the sump/filler plugs out (especially the transmission filler plug)
• messing on the floor (get waste undercarpet from your local carpet shop!)
• getting the transmission oil into the transmission. Either a Heath Robinson pipe and tank system (which always leaks), or 500ml at a time.
• the stench of old transmission oil!

Tips:

• rub either hand cleaner or Sunlight liquid into your hands before you start. Rub until the hands are 'dry'. It makes cleaning afterwards easier
• diesel engine sump oil is terrible stuff. 'wash' your hands with a bit of ATF before washing with anything else.
• don't overtighten anything!
• use a new sump washer.

make sure you can get the filler plug off before removing the drain plug.

I had to fill up by removing the center console and gear lever because I didn't check.

Hi Simon, I have summoned that job upon myself, also for next weekend. I recently obtained my 2.8 TDi and since I want to keep it for a long time, I want peace of mind that all fluids are drained, topped up and new.

So, without opening a can of worms (as could be seen on some other 4x4 sites), I would like confirmation of my observed/deducted choices on fluids for my Genie2:

Diesel Engin Oil {6.5 l}: Delo 400 Multigrade 15W40
Gearbox Oil {3 l} & Transfer case {2.5 l}: Caltex Easy Shift GL-4 75W-90 or Castrol MTF 1067 75w90 Synthetic
Front Diff {1.2 l}: Caltex Thuban GL-5 grade 80w90
Rear Limited Slip Diff {1.6 l}: Castrol LS

Any corrections on quantities or suggestions on oils are welcome - this is merely a collection of the best advice I could find after browsing the WWW.

I have a pajero io 1.8, 199 model manual
I have replaced the clucth kit (complete) with Valeo set ,& pilot bearing
I have managed to drain engine oil, gearbox oil & Transfer box oil
Easily replaced engine oil & gearbox oil again,but cant seem to find
place on transfer box where I must replace that oil
Tried bolt next to 3 x sensors, but that seems to be wrong
Has anyone got a picture, or photo or advice to assist me please?

Just never got roound to changing mine. Good thing though, look at all the nice info I got before starting. Well I actually started as the front diff is drained as it is so I might as well continue whlie the car is on stands.

for the auto I would recommend Mitsu's Dia Queen SP II

They sell it at R240 + vat for 4 litres.
