I see Hankooks are mentioned int he posts above - which model will that be? AT or Muds? I need to replace tyres soon as the Coopers are done and I do not want to buy another set of Coopers - too much road noise IMO.

Ok, here are the best prices I could get on 265/75/16's:
BFG AT: R2450
BFG Muds: R2450
Hankook AT: R2100
Hankook Muds: R2300
Mich LTX: R2516
Kumo AT: R2100
Kumo Muds: R2500
Eish, I hoped it would be cheaper than that

Still hunting for the best price:
BFG AT 265/75/16 x 4 @ R9300 - incl. VAT, fitment and alignment.

Just like a bottle of "Famous Grouse", a set of BFG ATs is a bargain at any price!macjohnw wrote:Still hunting for the best price:

PS Why 4 (and not 5)?
I agree on the Grouse bit, but man, paying R10,000 for 4 tires is a lot harder to swallow than lekker whiskey!4ePajero wrote:Just like a bottle of "Famous Grouse", a set of BFG ATs is a bargain at any price!macjohnw wrote:Still hunting for the best price:

I have a new spare tire (not BFG) but I did not need it the past 70,000km - so to spend another R2000 just to have the tires look the same is not worth it for me. I will buy a 2nd hand BFG if/when a tire is damaged beyond repair.

I managed to find The Yokohama AT-S (GO-12) for sale at R1550 per tyre for 265/70R16 at the local Maxiprest dealer (I think they call themselves MAX Tyres or something these days). I fitted four of these and am very happy and probably set for the next 100000 km or so. Those tyres are seriously good value at that price in my opinion.
I gave them a call (call themselves Max Solutions now) and spoke to Vernon.
Best price he can do for me is R1700 so you scored a really good price.
Dean, that was a little while (and at least one price increase) ago, though
