Has anyone attempted to replace the standard Radio unit in the Pajero 3.2 DID?
As I enjoy using my GPS (Garmin), and like more fidility in a sound system, I really think
the Pajero can do with better sound - and integrated GPS into the dash would be a nice touch
..bringing the Pajero into the 21 century..
The biggest obsticle I can think of right now is the Fuel consumption/barometer/Aircon controls (?) that are embedded into the single display.
Anyone?
Ok, after having a look at a few available units, I conclude that any dual din unit should fit-
but not all of them are created equal..
I now have.. touch screen
-GPS (Garmin - loaded with Tracks4Africa and Garmin SA Streetmaps)
-CD / DVD Player
-TV Tuner (adapted for my sons X-Box)
-I-Pod Interface
-Radio
-Reverse camera
Here is the changed dash:-

...did you replace the 6 CD-Changer as well and moved the controls for fan, climate and temp into this opening in the dash ...?
If I would keep our Pajero for longer - this would be my next mod...looks very professional. What double-DIN unit is it ?

Sjoe, that was quick!
Your first post asking about options was this morning and you already have the replacement installed.
It looks great, well done!
Now the questions
- What unit did you settle on?
- I see it has a Bluetooth logo on it as well. Does it also do hands free for your cellphone?
- I have always found the Gen3 sound quality a bit "boomy" so I'm interested to hear if you noticed an improvement in sound quality? (or are you planning to change the speakers as well?)
Cheers
Bruce

Looking good!
Unit model and cost? Where did you mount the rear camera on the vehicle?
Definately has gone onto my wish list. Can one also link the screen to a laptop mounted elsewhere?

Just an update:-
The unit I installed has been a great investment.
(a)Sound is great.
(b)bluetooth functionality works as well as could be expected
(c)reverse camera is great for checking on the trailer..
(d)IPOD functionality adds hours of music/audio books (effectively eliminating the need cd chuttle)
(e)DVD playback quality is great, and helps to make the time go by when having to wait in the car
(f)I have added a few .pdf files just for fun, and now have quite a bit of usefull information stored on the device
which has a built in e-book reader
(g) Mapping -I had the latest tracks4Africa and Garmin topo and streetmaps updated- so autorouting and offroad maps are working just fine.
Glitches:-
I have only experienced a single glitch -relating to the bluetooth - then had the unit reset (very simple process) - and have not had the problem reappear.
Although I had my unit flown in from Dubai by SAA pilot friend, I have come to learn that the local supplier is Planet Electronics in Gauteng.

Scuba,
That unit is a Garmin (top of the range) model. I happened to see it on a website a while ago. The quoted price there was R11 000.
I must agree, it could work!

R11k is a fair whack but doesn't sound excessive for what you get .. heck I paid R 4500 for a basic GPS 5 six years ago!
And the GPS V couldn't do anythging this thing can ... apart from telling you where you are and (less succesfully) where to go.
One for the "from Dad to Dad" xmas list ....
