I have posted elsewhere that I was very disappointed with the shaking of my Gen 3 in the Kgalagadi. On a recent flight I spoke with a farmer who was on his 6th Pajero. He lives near the Botswana border and swears by BFG tyres. He also suggested going a bit bigger than standard.
I am currently running Pirelli Scorpion ATRs which are great on road and seem very strong off road. They do seem a little 'skimpy' compared to Duellers or BFGs. I am now thinking of changing over to BFG 265/70/17 to get a bit more rubber. The objective is to tame the Kgalagadi's corrugations better. Before you ask, yes ,I know I have to drop pressures way below the recommended 1.5/1.6 bar.
The question is whether the slightly bigger tyre will improve the ride. And also the effect it will have on the auto box when cruiding at 120/130 kph.

Why not consider 275/65 R17,s ( standard size fitted to the Toyota 200) as they are approx 5 to 7 mm larger in diameter and will not affect the performance , and are 10 mm wider .... I compared them side by side today at Super Quick Greenstone Edenvale ... Duncan 072 355 9300
