Re: 3.2 Di-D valve stem seals
Before you do all of it, make 100% sure it is in fact the seals.

Once you have the injectors out, have them checked (especially #1, which seems to be the one most likely to give problems, for whatever reason). A dripping injector can display very similar symptoms.

bold4E has knowledge as to where and what replacement injectors (quality and price).

Re: 3.2 Di-D valve stem seals
I will do the seals first as they shouldn't be too expensive and I can DIY - the engine has high mileage so it may be time soon anyway.

If that solves the problem then I'm good to go. If the problem persists, I'll take the injectors out and have them tested and the pump calibrated/timed.

Hi Marius,

Take a tip from a fool !

To get the injectors tested by SAC wil cost you between R300 and R400 including the labour to take them out and refit them. I had my Pajero's checked about 2 months ago.

According to SAC the injectors should be checked and serviced every 40 000 km. If the tips are warn they can replace them. If the tips were worn for a long time they cannot be replaced ( over heating, melting etc.) and the complete injectors must be replaced at a cost for the injectors of about R6800 (not including labour). Pirate parts will cost you about the same but they are not recommended.

I lost an enjin because the #1 injector overfueled and the previous owner did not pick it up because there was no excessive smoke. The Pajero was only a bit heavier on fuel.

I think it is money well spent to have them checked every max 40 000 km. The machaninc at SAC is of opinion that the injectors should out last the enjin if they are serviced at the correct intervals.

Re: 3.2 Di-D valve stem seals
We don't have SAC in East London but Diesel Power just told me over the phone that they do free testing for mechanical injectors.

If they can service (new tips) it works out to about R250 each.

That price I can handle. I just hope it's not worse than just a service but looking at the condition of the car and engine and how it's running I'm sure a service will be all that's required - if any!

Re: 3.2 Di-D valve stem seals
It is cheaper and easier to replace injectors tha rebuilding an engine and replacing the injectors. That will be the end result if you neglact the injectors.

Good Luck and Happy Birthday.

Try and get some PAYEN seals. They will be just as good and much cheaper. I paid R969.23 for a complete 3.2 3ngine gasket set (include all gaskets, seals and head gasket).

Re: 3.2 Di-D valve stem seals
I nearly fell of my chair and I asked 3 times to make sure.

I'm getting 16 Victor Reinz (they make products for VW) seals @ R46 (R2.88 each)

- I have used their gasket maker on my brother's polo's sump and my autobox sump it worked 100% with no leaks up to date.

They have stock and I'm collecting later!

Thank you Alert Engine Parts!

Re: 3.2 Di-D valve stem seals
I started stripping but can't get the injectors out. The manual shows that they are just in there and the only things holding them in is the 2 bolts that II removed as per picture below.

Any advice? If I can't get them out I'll have to skip that step and just do the valve stem seals.
