I want the replace the standard radio unit in my 2005 Gen3 to improve sound quality and to add iPaod connectivity.
Most of the units I have looked at are either too delicate for offroad use or light up like a Christmas tree. The Gen3 dashboard and instruments already look like they were designed by a visually impaired person. Adding more flashing lights from the head unit will not help.
Where can I get a simple matt black head unit that is well built, sounds good and has iPod connectivity? I looked at the double DIN units, but am not sure that they actually sound any better.

Hi,
I replaced mine with a basic Pioneer unit which supported iPod and USB and replaced the speakers at the same time as well and added some tweeters up front. It has made a huge difference and very happy I made the change, lost cthe control of my fuel display, but it is high or .....high so doesn't make much difference by 0.5L per 100km.
I am not a doeff doeff guy, but wanted better sound and most importantly iPod and USB and it was possible to add 6x9 speakers in the rear door panels, just remove the current speaker mounts and they do fit in there nice and snugly, just need to squeeze them in there. Would be nice to have a bit more bass, but happy with the imrpovements, and wont be adding any subs any time soon, that will just break and get damaged in the boot in any event
Got mine from Autostyle in JHB and used e-bucks, what a bonus
.
I will add some pics under my post of my Pajero a little later to see (most of the new radios are unfortuantely a bit blingy), and it cost around R1800 for the unit, 4 new speakers and 2 tweeters and fitting and now a happy traveller for the long haul. Will definately recommend making the change.
Cheers
David
