Connecting Spotlight for dummies - Need Help
Hi there,

I am not very good when it comes to the electrical stuff, and don't want to cause too many issues :-). I have got a new set of spots I would like to connect to my normal high beam and need some assistance on how to do this. I preferably don't want to use the seperate switch provided.

Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated, wiring diagrams for Gen3, etc, have got the spots mounted and looks cool, now just the important part to make them work...

I found this one, but looks pretty complex for my limited electrical skills, thought it may just be earth connection and find the high beam power and I am done, or am I over simplifying it:

David,

Just a short "warning". I am of opinion that all spots/driving lamps must by law have it's own on/off switch. Installing such a switch is as easy as drinking a cold one!

Maybe one of the legal experts can comment on the legal issue.

Legal issues I can not comment on but it is a handy to have. Installing it is as easy as taking a set of wires to a switch inside the vehicle and cutting in to the line that comes from the main beam to switch the relay. In effect you cut the power to the relay from the main beam, simple and easy.

In the link above they have used a pretty similar setup but have switched the negative instead, being a sparky by trade I prefer to switch the live, old habits die hard

Thanks Henk, will be adding a switch on the positive, that it very easy, thanks for your input. Rather be on the safe side here.

David,

Sorry this is a bit late, but the easiest way to fit a switch to de-activate your spots/driving lamps is to put a switch in the earth line from the relay. If this line is cut, the relay is basically dead and being the earth line, no power flows thru it.
