for me the difference is less with the diesel pajero (between town and highway) than was with my 3.0V6 petrol colt.
Diff for Pajero is approx 2l/100km
Diff for Colt was approx 4l/100km

I'm trying to figure out why some 3.2 Di-D Auto owners are getting 10-11l/100km and others are getting 13-14l/100km.
I'm investigating the following at the moment
Torque converter lockup behaviour
A/T Fluid pressures

Are you taking into consideration the type of driving being done?
For example, I get around 10km/l on highway @ 130km/h
But most of my driving, is within JHB, with only about 30% highway driving. In the mornings to work, my engine does not even heat up 100% by the time I get to work, and its stop go mostly between traffic lights, speed bumps etc. Then I wont even get 7km/l.

So on my last tank I managed 11.5L/100km with my Auto, and that's with about 20% on the highway at 110kph. It was more fuel efficient before my short-supply valve thingimabob in the pump was replaced, it has been about 10% worse, consistently, since then (3 tanks ago)
In Short: I have tried to up the fuel consumption of my DiD - No-one can help or give clear answers. My friend with a 2004 gets 11km/l EASY. I struggle to get 8km/l. Ok his has 140000km and mine 240000km. But even when I want to replace injectors and do pump calibration nobody can guarantee better consumption. Is expecting 10km/l open road to much to ask? I have even tried driving 100km/h for long trips and still - 8.5km/l
Dropping to 80km/l for 300km stretch gave me 10.5km/l
Any ideas

Well, I've just done new injectors today. I will see if my consumption is beter.
I got between 6km/l and 7km/l town driving.
The best highway consumption was 8.5km/l
I've done injectors for piece of mind actually, I have 207 000km on the Pajero now. It feels much more responsive now.
Try differant brands of diesel as well. I tried Caltex last week and it looked better as well, got 188km on quater of a tank. Normally was about 150km on Shell
