Good day,
Im the proud owner of a 1993 japanese import automatic swb pajero 2.8 (4m40). My beloved has a few problems that I would love your help in identifying the problem and maybe solutions (please give me some average prices from the stealers- it seems that nelspruit has no trusted pajero independent techs- Mitspro, please open branches...) i have already topped the diff oil, changed engine oil, all filters and filled her with coolant. she takes quite a while to get to operational warmth, maybe its the coolant doing its job. i also replaced a valve on the rhd side of the engine, that was leaking oil.
things that i would love to do soon:
200.000 km service;
The clocks are not working;(my mate who checked her said the sensor below the engine/gearbox was bust, so a new one is needed) we did not touch the thermo switch as he feared it would mess with the boiling temp (im a lawyer and hes an auto electrician by formation-fleet manager by trade)
Excessive fuel consumption; (even though the clocks are not working i filled the tank on friday and yesterday i was on the half tank mark. i drive mainly in town (average 40 kms a day) so roughly 160km for half a tank? hell no
Flashing super select lights and O/D not working;
Strange clanking/grinding noise when I put her in 4h or any other 4wd mode;
Need new shocks; the local shop(reputable) has some monroe and gabriels for the cool price of R2210 for 4. is this a good price? but they dont have the Kubus.
I also feel that she doesn’t get up to speed fast (maybe im not used to it cause its my first diesel, all my other cars were a Toyota corolla, Honda civic, Nissan hardbody, Honda crv – all petrol) I feel her lacking some pulling power when going uphill.
What would be the time required to perform such services? I need my truck running smooth. She does not smoke, starts at first time every time.
thanks
If you consider the fact that the info on this forum is used as a reference data base for searches on specific problems, you will realise that discussion of numerous 'problems' in one thread will soon become very 'messy'.
I suggest you start separate threads for the different problems you have.
Different members have different interests or areas of experience, so you will get the right members responding to whatever the 'problem' is.

Hi dr3am3r
I have the same car, also an import spec, just a 1998 model.
Also have to bear in mind that the 2.8 isn't the most economical engine ever made, and that the auto box will increase the fuel consumption. I get between 6 - 6.8 km/l in town, between 7.3 and 8 km/l on highway (depending on how heavily car is loaded and whether I'm towing). Best consumption I've got was 8.9 km/l travelling from Sutherland to Bellville in December.

Have you checked that the glowplugs are working?dr3am3r wrote: she takes quite a while to get to operational warmth, maybe its the coolant doing its job.
O/D not working could be the reason.dr3am3r wrote:

Diesel's aren't as nippy as petrol cars; plus as it has a 4-speed auto, the gearing will be higher than what you are used to. It's just something that you will have to learn to live with.dr3am3r wrote: I also feel that she doesn’t get up to speed fast (maybe im not used to it cause its my first diesel, all my other cars were a Toyota corolla, Honda civic, Nissan hardbody, Honda crv – all petrol) I feel her lacking some pulling power when going uphill.
