265/65/17 to 245/65/17
Guys,

I know there are a similar thread about the 16" tyres.

I currently have 265/65/17, I can get a set 'n tyres thats 245/65/17 for free.
Why would the diameter change if I only want to change the 265 to 245 width.

Is it possible to change to 245/65/17?
I currently have H/T tyres and the 245's are AT's and would like to put that on...

Hi Nismo,

Here is a nice tyre size calculator with visual, you will lose around 15mm height more or less:

It is a calculation and not a pure width that is the 245 vs. the 265 measurements. Took me a while to get used to that.

Re: 265/65/17 to 245/65/17
The 65 refers to the aspect ratio of the tyre. Height to width.
With the original being 265 and aspect ratio of 65 it follows that the sidewall would be 172.25.

With 245 and aspect ratio of 65, the sidewall height would be 159.25.

Using this, your smaller tyre would lead to approx 3% over reading of your speedo.

Thanks now I understand a bit better. I wouldn't want to lose ground clearance and don't want to mess the auto box around as well.

So what would the closest 16" size be?

Closest(almost identical) size for 16" rim is 265/70R16. It is standard for Gen 3 GLS Pajeros with 16" rims.

Would there be a big difference between the 17" and 16" tyres in price?

For Free? Fit them for around town and swop them out when you go bundu bashing.
PS Remember to do both the front and back. As the ratios are diffrent you could have some problems in 4*4 when using different tyre sizes...
