2007 DID GLX vehicle info please
Hello

This is my first post, and I am not officially a Pajero owner (just yet).

Fact is I am looking at a 2007 GLX DID at the moment and have read myself into confusion. I have a few questions.

Aparently a 2007 Pajero can be either Gen3 or Gen4 with the following things being different:

Gen 4 has traction control and rear diff lock
Gen 4 has diffirent engine, 41 version
Minor cosmetic changes.

Could somebody confirm or elaborate on this please. Ia am actually finding it hard to confirm which one it is also, can youtell from a picture?

The vehicle is also from the coast and the underside seems to have some corosion looking stuff on it. Not really rust but rather it just looks really dry. Does anybody know if the undercariage has some protection against this.

Is the diff-circlip a problem on these models?

Anything else I should look out for, the car drives lovely and engine sounds and feels great. Was a quite a lot of white smoke when I pulled away, but I think this is probably from standing in the parkinglot for a week, anu other comments on this?

Anyways, really hope to get one soon and have read and enjoyed your forum a lot in the past few days, hope to contribute some good stuff soon.

Re: 2007 DID GLX vehicle info please
You are correct - 2007 was the year that the Gen4 was introduced. The Gen3 GLX has rear diff lock. Apparently some of the early Gen4 GLX's had diff lock only , some had TC only and some had both.

Regarding the engines, when you say 41 version I assume you are referring to the 4M41 engine. Both Gen3 and Gen4 are 4M41's as far as I know. The big difference is that the Gen4 saw the introduction of common rail technology. Outputs (both power and torque) were the same.

Other differences that I am aware of are that the Gen3 GLX came with steel wheels as apposed to alloys.
Gen3 had dual air-con units whereas Gen4 GLX only single air-con.

Corrosion doesn't seem to be a problem on the Pajeros and the diff circlip issue also seems to have been sorted out some years ago.

One can definitely see the difference in a photo. Have a look on Google images and you will immediately see the difference between Gen3 and Gen4.

Good luck with your search - they are both great options!
Cheers

White smoke out the back is not a good sign...

Maybe the experts can comment, but you should check for water in the oil (milky appearance on the dipstick), and for oil in the engine coolant.

muito obrigado

I'll check if I can see wether it has difflock/TC/or both, I gues this does make a difference in what I should pay.

On the engine smoke, it is a bit difficult to quantify smoke. I checked the engine oil and it seems good, no signs of water, but I'll check the coolent for oil, thanks for that tip. I thought diesels smoked when you started them? Is there anything else I can look out for regarding this?

Appreciate the help!
Re: 2007 DID GLX vehicle info please
the newer engines dont really smoke.

And if there is smoke (as with the older engines) it should be a blueish black smoke, not white.

The white smoke on the first start-up could have been due to standing so long.
Condensate etc.

Does it still smoke on start-up?

Most diesel engines will smoke a bit at start-up, due to the cold engine. Diesels work optimally when hot. I would not worry about start-up smoke.
