Hi there forumites
This is my first encounter with the forum, having joined yesterday after I bought ( allmost like stealing it, mind you )my first Pajero on Friday. It does not have an owners manual, and my hope is that you clever guys could identify it for me and possibly give some basic info, such as tank capacity, and expected fuel economy. Only info I have is that it is a 1996 2.8 tdi SWB. Much appreciated.[attachment=0]SA400234.JPG[/attachment][/font]

That seems to be a Gen 2 Pajero and from the round headlights and yellow spots I would guess that it is a 'grey' import vehicle, ie not originally distributed by Mitsubishi in South Africa, at that timedistributed by SIGMA later SAMCOR. Is it registered in South Africa?

Thank you guys for your input. I am trying to download the manual, but my paraffin stove is a bit on the very slow side. Yes Cats, it is registered in SA. Took it for a spin this week. Lovely - and my first automatic vehicle after all these years.

Hi, with my 97 LWB 2.8TDi, I get on average over the past two years 8.3km/l. In winter I travel to work with it. I moved house twice, also used to remove garden refuse, trees, and building rubble which hits hard and millage drops to 7.0km/l at worst. On the open road, I don't know about the trailor tagging along, and on average get 9.1 km/l, best ever was 9.4 @ 115km/h. I tend to travel at about 110km/h which leaves the revs a sliver under 3000rpm, it is recommended to keep the revs down, and psychological as well
With the RTT on top, consumption drops by about 0.4 km/l, which isn't too bad - the power of a diesel rescuing the numbers.
I had the van dynatuned and an EGT gauge put in when bought, so I guess that will also help your cause assuring the expensive juice gets used best.

My guess is that it is surely an import, that front left mirror is a dead give away.

Glad you received a manual and love your Pajero. I have a very similar one, Pajero 2.8 TDI 1996 long wheel base. I change the mineral oil in the diff with a Castrol synthetic oil for limited slip diff and the mineral gearbox oil with a Castrol synthetic oil BOT 130 M. That reduces wear and increase life of gear and diff components. Also better gear shift an no signs of wear particles in the diff oil anymore.
I am looking for a manual for my Pajero and hope you will be so kind to assist me with the manual for the 1996 pajero 2.8 TDi.

Sorry for the late reply. I was in the Eastern Free State for a while. The manual is avilable at the top of this thtread, supplied by Simon. Download it. It is very helpful, but of course covers quite a number of models. Takes some carefull searching if you are looking for someting in particular. Thanx for the fuel consumption and oil usage info. Much obliged
