Finnally decided to cough for some new BFG tyres.

I bought two, but I have a concern that I have been sold one that isnt brand new.

The one tyre still had stickers etc on so no problem, the other not and after having a good look at home Im even less convinced its new.

They are BFG 265/70R 17

Then there is the other number 112/109R. Not sure what this is, from what I gather 112 is a weight rating and the R is the speed rating? - the 109?

Anyways the dubious tyre has a 'Q' and not an 'R' and if Im right then it has a lower speed rating? If this is the case, Im really not happy...

That is a very interesting question. I am currently shopping for a set myself and would like to know.
One thing, if you suspected that the tire is not new, you should have gone back there the same day! The price of these tyres is no joke and if you feel uncomfortable with it from the start, then you should insist on changing it.

What did you pay for yours? Here in Dirtbin the price difference between 16” and 17” is over R1000

Yip, I did go back the same day, however only noticed the speed rating later.

But all ends well, they have replaced with the correct new tyre, so I am satisfied now.

The price was R3100 each for the 17".

Just for info, the the 112/109 is the load index for a single wheel application(112=1120kg) and 109 load index for twin tyre (truck set-up)per tyre.

R Speed rating is for the current 265 70 17 BFG's, used to be Q.

You can also check the age of a tyre on the side-wall. it is normally printed in a small block with 4 numbers i.e.(4310 = week 43 of 2010) 3 numbers was used in the 90's (439 = week 43 of 1999)
