Most of us use caltex delo 400 multigrade. It is a fantastic oil!

My Haynes manual states 7.5L with new filter.

I agree with Marius: 15W-40 Caltex DELO 400.
Re: Amount of oil
Would shell Rimula be OK to use?

Also, the any reason why not to use fully synthetic oil? especially on the newer common rail engines?

I'm not an oil expert but i feel full synthetic's advantages are longer drain intervals but with our diesel's sulphur content that acidifies the oil, synthetic and dino oil need the same intervals on our engines.

Fully synthetic is overhyped IMHO except in high performance engines where the longer polymers may help in the longevity of the oil and may heighten the breakdown temp. I prefer looking at the spec as additives contributes 90% to the quality of the oil and it's characteristics. Delo 400 has been proven and receives good personal reviews.

shell rimula is also good and probably wouldn't hurt. I just like to stick to the known.

The choice lies with you. I'll leave with you this though. Once you choose an oil, stick to it. Changing from one oil to another has been known to cause leaks and sometimes smoking. I dont know why but it does.
