Greg

I think the reason is that the dash rattle in South Africa is linked to the very heavy double din radio/nav unit fitted as stndard on the later Gen4 models. This is not a true Mitsubishi product and although Australia has a similar entertainment unit, it is of another manufacturer and maybe fitted better as well. The units in South Africa are fitted ex factory in South Africa and I think this is where most of the dash movements emmanate from. I for one never had a dash rattle in my older 2008 Gen4 which still came out with the original rockford fosgate head unit.

Even Mitsu in South Africa is not too keen on this latest head unit and it seems now sell the vehicles without them and give some discount or will fit them on request. I certainly have not heard too many favourable things about the unit. Cant recall the make now off hand.

Cats,

I have the "older 2008 Gen4 which still came out with the original rockford fosgate head unit" and it goes with a rattletrap dash.

I think I mentioned it higher up in this thread, the dash would bang the windshield mounted GPS from below - where the GPS is a good cm above the dash.

You know how much respect I have for Pajero, but I'm telling you this is a show stopping problem for Mitsu.

Yes, I agree with you about the newer nav units giving trouble. Even the sales guy at the dealer warned me about it.

Ditto, mine is a 2007 Gen 4. Piet

Likewise - 2007 Gen4 - dashboard boogies big time on corrugations - needs very low tyre pressures even on Kruger's dirt roads.

I avoid even the Kruger dirt roads. Convinced the wife there is more game to view on the tar roads

Guys,

I think we need to formulate a plan of action. Mitsu is not going to solve this problem for us.

Here is what I have been thinking:
1) Talk to my indi to find out if he can/will/want strip my whole dashboard. Very important would be to get a labour cost estimate for this job.
2) I need to be present to assess the various joints as they come apart. This means I need to take a day (or two) holiday from work, or convince my indi to do it at my house over a weekend.
3) Then we will have to sit and come up with various ideas on how to firm up the whole dash mount with additional home made brackets.
4) We will also need to use "packing" material between joins when we re-assemble.

Please consider my plan with a critical eye and help me to come up with the right plan of action.

Any additional info and drawings will be worth their weight in gold.
Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
I stick my KFC sprinkle pops in the cubby, find a dirt road and it's AWESOME flavour through and through! :D

Jokes aside, mine jumps by probably two cm's on rough roads but i thought it was normal, now i'm not sure.

Roelf, i thought you said yours was sorted? is much improved still not to your liking?

Hi Guys

I'm brand spanking new to the site. As I have been reading on the site for quite a while, the wealth of knowledge that is available from the members, really got to me so I decided to join. Maybe one day someone can also benefit from my experience.
I have bought my second Pajero which is a Gen 4 and am also appalled by how much the dash shakes.
I live on a gravel road which is not in the best of conditions and is about 15 km's from our town. My previous Pajero, a Gen 3 handled this road with no problems.
I wonder if there is anyone in the Cape Town area that can help me as to what I should do about this.
It feels as if the dash is going to break off at any time.
Thanks a lot if someone can help.

RedCat,

I took a video with my cell this morning (I have been trying to get it off my cell and onto my PC for the last hour) of the dash on a dirt road.

I'm prepared to say that maybe it shakes a bit less, but it rattles like hell. Maybe some damage was done to the joints before the brackets were fitted, or the actual removal and fitment made the rattles worse.

I'm actually too ashamed to load people into my car anymore.
