Can all owners of 1996 - 2000 model 2.8 diesel's tell me more or less what their consumption is?
Currently getting 8km/l
secondary thought, at what milage should I look at a turbo overhaul?

My consumption (SWB with auto gearbox):
6 - 7 km/l on town
7.5 - 8 km/l on highway, with best of 9km/l

Yip I also get between 7 and 9(the best yet) for both city and open road with mine! 
Has anyone found a noticalbe difference with roof alloy carrier? Also wondering how much a roof top tent will affect it?
My pajero had a sudden increase in fuel consumption. I am a student and as a hobby I'm fixing all the little bugs in the car. I drove to SAC to diagnose the problem. Anyway they said the turbo is not boosting thus over fueling and i had to tune, new injectors and replace turbo. So i drove the car to japan auto to find spares for the above because i was quoted 16k at sac for just the turbo. A new turbo at JA 5.4k. I phoned one of my dads friends who owns a workshop so i can use one of the bays. He said i should return and not buy anything. Back in rustenburg i stripped injectors and had them redone for R1200 (electro diesel). Removed and cleaned turbo but did not disassemble the unit. Some carb cleaner works well. Then oiled moving parts and fond the problem was a stuck actuator that moves the dump valve. A bit of q20 and it worked. Fitted a boost gauge to monitor boost (.7bar). I must say i have never done any major work on a car like this but fond it easy (for a soon to be accountant)
The coke trok has 220 000 and i get anything between 9 and 11 km/l when shifting at 20, 40, 65, 100. I must say after the work the car has more power smokes less and sounds better. I will post some pics.

Traveling to CPT-Kgalagadi-CPT I got 8.5km/l @ 115km/h with a RTT. Normally I get 9-9.3km/l @ 110km/h on the open road, so I guess to could say .5 km/l influence for a RTT in my experience.Webster wrote:Has anyone found a noticalbe difference with roof alloy carrier? I had my '97 2.8 dyna tuned at Kosie Swanepoel in Brackenfell - reputable performance tuner of note. He mentioned that the turbo can run as high as 1.4bar, but above 1.2bar you start to stress the turbo. He added a little pipe into the airflow and pushed it up to 1.0bar, on which he claims he never had any issues/come backs. PS apparently 0.8 bar is standard.SWBstudent wrote:... The one gauge you would want to invest on this motor, is an EGT gauge. It will give you peace of mind that you are not over stressing the engine, whilst also helping you to see how hard it is working. There is plenty info on that on the forum.
In terms of switching gears, I have no need to rev the engine above 3000rpm, and when cold, never above 2000rpm. In fact, when dynatuned, the print out showed that 95% of the torque and kilowatt is available from about 2600rpm, with almost no change up to 4000rpm, where both drop off steeply.
I am digressing.... enjoy your wheels!! I will try cleaning out my turbo when you post some pics
I just sold my 1996 LWB 2.8TD. My consumption was between 9-10km/l for long distance. For city driving I managed to get between 8.5-9km/l.
