I'm still pondering my choice between a Gen 3 and Gen 4... and the dash is the only concern I have with the Gen 4

I did test drive a Gen 4 recently, but just on tar roads - I tried to hit as many imperfections (small potholes) in the road as possible, and it felt solid. If you press on the dash behind the instrument cluster, and behind the centre "speaker/grill", it does feel more flimsy than the Gen 3. But I didnlt notice any real rattles.

Is there anyone in the Cape, that has a Gen 4 and is willing to drive on some dirt roads with me?

Dalk is daar sekere Gen 4's waarvan die dash meer rattle en skud as die ander, ek weet nie. Maar my Gen 4 se dash skud of ratle nie meer as wat my Gen 3 se dash geskud het nie.

In general I find that my Gen 3 Pajero handles corrugations best at higher speeds. At low speeds it does get quite rough.

I havent been on heavily corrugated roads but I havent experienced and dash rattles/bouncing in my Gen 4. Im extremely pedantic about rattles and squeeks to sure if there was a serious problem, I would have picket it up by now. I do leave the cubbyhole empty, so no heavy owners manual or anything else jumping around in there. Tyres are pumped to 2.5 bar

I also run my cubby on empty. Any weight in there makes it 10x worse. My Gen3 had two cubbies and they were full of stuff - all I did there was inserted a rubber lining so the items themselves wouldn't rattle. The Gen3 did require a few rubber inserts between the dash and the windshield, but once I did that all was fine.

I bought my Gen4 on 60k km. It really was smooth and rattle free on tar. First time we took on (small)corrugations in the Kruger, I was shocked. Tyre pressure was high (I tow my caravan to the Kruger), so I happily assumed that real dirt road travel will be OK, because I'll drop the pressure for that.

Our real holiday in May - touring southern Nam and returning via the Kalahari - was a shocker. No matter how low I took the pressure, the dash would shake itself so badly that I couldn't read the speedo.

It was scheduled for a service directly after the trip. I complained about the dash and the service consultant informed me of the brackets they could fit. I had this done and I think the actual shaking is better, but the dash is full of rattles. I ascribe two causes to this: 1)the bad shaking on holiday damaged/wore out the clips and brackets and 2)having the dash stipped and put together again for the brackets did further damage. That is why the Mitsu document didn't like the idea of fitting the brackets.

It seems like either there are big differences between vehicles, or the conditions that they were driven in are just very different.

I'll have to test drive myself, but it is not easy trying to arrange this

Maybe it is a GLS vs GLX thing. Could be the "beefed-up" radio weighs too much. A buddy in Nelspruit has the GLX and I think he is happy with his dash.

Here are my options:

1)Do I just accept things as they are and live with it - with the radio volume a few notches above normal?
2)Do I spend zillions on labour and have the whole dash taken apart and re-assembled with new clips? (hopeing that it will make things better)
3)Do I follow my instincs(heart) and follow-up on the special offer on a new Treg 3.6 V6 petrol that is going around at the moment? I did contact VWSA, but they haven't come back to me yet (more than a week later) - not a good sign either.
