Can someone please tell me what is the difference between the 6g74 and 6g76 motors.

6G75 is the 3.8 motor.

But as far as I know there are 2 different 3.5 motors. 6g74 and 6g76. Would like to know the difference.

Can't say if I have heard about the 6g76 motor, but there were a couple of the 6G74 model 3.5 variants, the DOHC in the Gen 2 and 2.5, and the SOHC in the Gen 3, GDI used in various models and the MIVEC they put in the EVOLUTION(want one!!).

I know they introduced the Caska double din radio units as standard during that time as well, so that might be a clue to the 140kw engine but am not sure how you can tell for certain. Lets hear what some other knowledgeable owners report?

I do have the 2005 Gen3 GLX and it is a 3.8l V6. Mau=ybe you can add it to your specifications. You have stated it is a 3.5l V6. Maybe they both came out in 2005??

I assume that was a SWB was it? I cant recall the GLX model lwb ever coming out in SA with petrol engines? Certainly not before 2007 at least. After that I am not so sure myself.

My knowledge of the SWB differentiating models are also a bit sketchy but I thought from 2000 up to 2013 SWB models only came out in GLS spec?

Can someone please confirm?

Cats I must agree with you on that.

As far as the GLX is concerned I am under the impression that the initial GLX' came out in 2003/4 with very basic features. It had steel wheels and I think the petrol had a 3.5l mill. etc. Soon after, about 2005 they lifted the spec and it had mags and a few other upgrades and possibly the they introduced the 3.8l mill aswell. These GLX facts are based on my vague recollection of what was available when I bought my 2004 SWB in June that year. The GLX then sold for the same price as the GLS SWB.

I don't recall a 3.8V6 GLX ever on offer in the SA market, but I have no idea what may have come into SA as imports.

Very useful thread CATS. Is it safe to assume that if the SWB has round fog lights then it has TC? I am looking at possibly buying one next year and would prefer the TC over the diff lock, although it might be better to have the diff lock if the going gets tough but so far the TC on our Gen 4 has treated us well on normal trails.
