Roelf op die 4x4 forum is 'n thread, Build quality of gen 4. Mr G is besig met 'n lang storie, in kort lyk dit of hy die probleem uitsorteer het, met 'n video om stap vir stap te verduidelik.

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
Last week i opened up a dash of a gen4 and lo behold there are the agents brackets installed.Let me say they make no difference to the dash shake in the car.We actually drove a very bad road before i opened the dash and i showed the gentleman how the dash shakes, only afterwards to discover that the mitsu fix was installed.
Maybe its just our local dealer who maybe installed them incorrectly, but i can honestly say i dont think that small piece of aluminium will make any difference to the dash shake, think about it.2x3mm 15cm brackets holding up such a big dash, and then installed where the dash does not need the support.
Sorry for sounding negative, but this is my experience now first hand with the agents fix.
Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
John, that is exactly my experience. The dealer had my car twice to "install" whatever they install. There may be some improvement but it still jumps up and down on a slightly corrugated road. You make it sound as if you can undo a dash blindfolded by now.

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
:D I nearly can yes.i said to Mr.Kritzinger whos car i looked at that all other rattles and cabbyhole issues are a result of the excessive shake.
The brackets I make definately work but there is a very slight movement still on very bad roads, but even my brackets are not that strong to hold up the entire dash on corrugations.
As i said though, the local dealer fix is not even worth paying R100 for let alone the 5k they quoted me.
That said, there is no real alternative to the way i built mine.
I have thought of a very solid "new" bracket that should eliminate shake completely but this will need to be done at an engeneering works. So maybe in the near future i will look into it.

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
Hi All, I had the dashboard supports replaced by Mitsui at McCarthy's Witbank under warranty. The replacement has been very successful and I have just returned from 14 days in Kgalagadi with NO rattles from dash. The only rattle was from an air vent that a bit of paper stopped.
Tyre pressures 1.6, OME suspension and she just floated over the corrugations with the only juddering occasionally when stopping quickly to take photos of feeding Cheetah, Lion etc.

Good to know that they work for you.I still think our local dealer installed them incorrectly in the vehicle I drove.

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
I took my poor Pajero on the worst corrugations I have ever had the misfortune to endure - on the track from Hondeklipbaai to Groenriviermond.

It was so bad that the indicator and wiper stalks would shake so severely that both the wipers and the indicators would be shaken into the "on" position.

I was totally impressed with the dash. The dealer installed brackets reduced the total dash movement to about 1mm. I also took the following precautions before my holiday:
1)Applied foam-rubber strips to the cubby lid and the centre-console lids.
2)Applied same foam-rubber strips (stacked x 2) between the windscreen and the dash.

Both the cubby and console rattles were completely cured, but the dash-rattle below that little sill at the windscreen returned after a few minutes of bad corrugation. The foam-rubber had deformed and failed to apply pressure on that little sill. My old kaki hat was lying on the dash and I forced the hat's rim into that slot between the dash and the windscreen, and then some more and finally in a "brutal" way. That really sorted the dash out.

The hat is still there and will remain there for the foreseeable future.

The Pajero-dash is now at a standard I can live with.
