I sold my 2007 Fortuner and got my wife this 2010 Pajero sport, please tell me I did not make a mistake.
The older brother on the right is still my favourite, but I will use this one for longer trips.
Well I think you might just have earned your wings as Pajeromaniac! Cant make a mistake on a Pajero! Plus you can now have a good nights rest and stop worrying about swambo putting the Tin on its roof!
Enjoy!
PS - what is swambo's review between the Toy and the Mits?

My wife do like the Pajero allot more. The seats at the back that folds better than the Fortuner and the Auto is for her the key selling point and off course she was quite nervous about all the hi-jack stats of the Fortuner.
I think it is unfair to compare a 2007 Fortuner with a 2010 Pajerosport but would like to put the two same year models up against each other.
Regarding roll over of the Fortuner, what allot of BS. I drive quite allot of gravel and most of the time with a heavy off road trailer at 80-100km/h and never had any close calls. The permanent 4 wheel drive actually worked very well for me.
Once in Moz swerved for a goat with the trailer and I did not even come close to losing it. Once went of the road near Baltimore (misjudged oncoming traffic lights) at 140km/h and had a very bad scare but the Fortuner did not put a foot wrong. In my opinion you should go and look at the car that was previously owned of the SUV that rolled... Probably a platkar with different driving characteristics.
To come back to the Pajerosport, I think it is going to be a little more thirsty, but on my first tank got 10.8l/100km.
The low range feels a little fast but I did not really took it off road. For me it is a better looking car inside and out. I also prefer the auto. The ride is softer. The turbo lag is less than the Fortuner on pull away but I think the Fortuner will kick its ass 80-120km/h. At the end of the day I think it is a personal choice on what you drive...and like you said I've got two of them. I think the SWB will probably see the day I die...

Jaco, I agree on the Fortuner and the stories about its tipping being pulled out of content. I never drove one but if you look at the number of them out there there are bound to be a couple that end up on their roof somewhere, like any other make. Statistics can be dangerous in the wrong hands
. I was just commenting on it tongue in cheek.
Coming back to the Sport.
I think you will find the low range a bit high on the Pajero Sport, especially on the auto. It never was a great attribute of the Pajero boxes and one that you need to learn to live with and cadence brake down steep declines off road.

I agree,
Although I do recall an article that pretty much put the story to rest, as it was with the very 1st generation/series of fortuners that came out without rear stabilizer bars, and thats what caused the 'increased' risk of rollover.
That problem was sorted out quick enough though, but not without the fortuners reputation taking a bit of a beating.
Problem is, alot of people only see / read / beleive what they want to. Fact is, fortuners are every bit as safe as any other SUV.

Although I agree with the statement that the Fortuner's roadholding has been exaggerated (a bit), I cannot agree on the above statement.Mcnoogle wrote: Fact is, fortuners are every bit as safe as any other SUV.
All SUVs are relatively safe, due to their massive construction and therefore considerable weight.
I stopped using my Gen1 as a daily driver due mainly to the lack of active safety features.
It is so old (1989) that air bags were never considered when it was built.
Later model Pajeros are obviously better in the safety stakes, but all SUV are definitely not equal (as far as safety goes).
One of the reasons I bought the VW Touareg was for its safety features. (eg 11 air bags).
To put a Fortuner (with 2 air bags, I think) on par with that is just not on.
under no circumstances can a fortuner compete with a pajero in terms of roadholding and crash safety.
back on topic.... Pajeros are special.
At some stage my father had a gen1 (he still has it)
my brother had a gen2 (he still has it)
and I had a gen3 (sold it)
and my father nearly added a gen4 before 750NM pulled him away

When you "swinged" your Fortuner to a Pajerosport you did not make a mistake - you corrected an earlier mistake...
