Thanks Roelf. The extra 30kw causes the big itch in me, but sounds like I should rather go with the Gen3 and start planning that long postponed Vic Falls/Kariba trip
I luckily still have the Gti feel in my life, as my daily town drive is an old 1994 Citi 1800 sport from my varsity days. It pulls in 5th gear like most cars in 4th and best of all it only weighs 750kg... I thought about selling it several times, but just cannot seem to let it go as means much more to me than 15-20K that I will get for it. The gearbox went in Dec 12 due to water that somehow got into it - still puzzled on how that happened - and it cost me a whole R5K to replace it with a 2nd unit from a 2006 1.6i that only did 60K km's...

Sorry guys, I went over to the darkside & got a v8 disco3 for a very good price & low km. holding fingers crossed that there is not to much truth in all the landy jokes.
I just could not get my hands on 3.8 pajero in close to 4 months of looking. Japanese Import 3.8's in Windhoek go for 30-40k more than 2007 gen4 Sa model & the computer box on imports is different, so my Indie could not read or reset anything on imports, so not worth the risk.
I will go for a drive in my dads 3.2 shorty if the longing becomes to much. Just did a weekend trip to Erindi with his shorty last week-end & will miss the Mitsu.

Bennie. Congrats and remember that we will always welcome you back. Of all the Discovery 3/4 I would probably sleep the best with that gas guzling V8 engine, so hopefully it will give you many miles of smiles! The Disco is a great vehicle even with all its suspension quirks. Enjoy.

1)Congrats on getting a real icon in the 4x4 world
2)That V8 motor bolted onto a seriously high-tech ZF transmission and riding on air can only be a pleasure.
I have just seen your latest post on the other side:
Remember the difference between a Gen3 DiD Pajero and a V8 Disco 3 is as vast as you can possibly imagine. You have been driving a "boring" car that just keeps on doing the right thing all the time. You now have an exciting car, with dozens of computers and each one runs six or seven different systems. There are pumps and motors all over the place getting instructions from these computers and sending back messages to the computers. Little gremlins are known to occur because of these great high-tech systems.
You have done your research and you are talking to the best guys on the net. These little gremlins can (and I know you will) be managed. Get your head around the fact that you are now driving the opposite to your previous car and enjoy the positives of that great car.
Hope you have many safe miles ahead of you.

Thanks Cats & Roelf, I must say that the sound of a V8 alone is allready worth it.
Lets just hope with a little preventative maintenance, a diagnostic tool and some basic know-how, she will not leave me stranded in the middle of no-where.
Now the big queston, where to put all the jerry cans...
