Soek raad.
By voorbaat, dankie
Johan
They seem to pop up randomly every now and again on Gen4 common rail Pajero's. Some at very low mileage. The SCV can get damaged due to some dirty fuel so this might have been your problem. Funny though that it did not leave a fault code? From what I could read they usually pop a fault code p0089. What is the price quoted by the dealers? Here are some reading on the Ausie Pajero forum where a few have been reported faulty.

My Pajero is nou weer klop-disselboom.
Just to add for others in the future...
The suction control valve (SCV) us a common problem on the common rail 3.2 Did and pretty much all common rail systems made by Denso, (so most Japanese diesels).
The parts is expensive from the agents and even via the local Denso agent us almost the same price.
The most common symptoms of a faulty SCV is surging of engine power at light throttle. It can also cause increase in fuel consumption, reduced power, rough idle and cold starting issues. The valve is meant to regulate the common rail pressure, but as it wears out, it can control the pressure accurately, so it over and under shoots. Hense the surging.
I have some of the above symptoms, but very mild.
I found a supplier in Thailand (where the Denso factory is located) that sold me the part for $100 including shipping to my door via courier.
Haven't fitted it yet, but it should be quite simple. It will need an injector relearn via diagnostics at the agents afterwards.
