Morning guys
I bought a 2001 pajero 3.2 auto GLS, currently 340 000km on the clock
It was well looked after, and full service history. But I have been finding some faults and maintance to be done
What I would like is to start a list and systematic approach to getting the vechile to perfect running condition. Even thought thus far it is keeping up well, no big issues
Please enlighten me with you experences and preventative maintance plans

Mine is probably extreme as it has worked hard but I have also owned and lovingly looked after the vehicle since 80000km. I am still not happy with the current result on my vehicle but will sort it soon.

Yes, nice meeting you as well. Glad to have been able to help, it also helped to test my vehicle.
Was impressed with the Powerbrake upgrade I did. Was able to control both pajeros' decent well, did put out some heat but never lost braking power. Then it ended up towing to babrton with almost no issues, only issue was in Barberton when it started heating slightly up. But cooled down well

I have just painstakingly slowly punched in a lengthy post on my tiny little cellphone keypad, only to have it dissappear into cyber nothingness

I echo Roelf's comments, I also had a Burnco front bumper on my previous Pajero and it gave me plenty issues with reduced airflow to radiator. I took my whole radiator out and blew all the seeds and leaves out, re-did the foam sealing around the radiator as well. Seems to me if you have a aftermarket steel bumper your cooling system must be in 100% working order.

Up to now, my radiator seems to work well, had it and the intercooler checked before the tie the dots trip. Seems the cooling system is working well and doesn't over heat.
It was just that one bit on the tie the dots trip that it over heated due to me not understanding how the gear box needs to be treated

I do not wish to sound like a broken grammaphone, but if your car over heated (for whatever reason) then the cooling system isn't "working well".
My biggest concern, on your behalf, is that I believe these TD motors just don't take kindly to "thermal events".
They will last forever if they are fueled correctly and cooled correctly.

If you drive offroad and leave it in D the gearbox tends to hog 3rd gear which means the torque converter and engine is working extremely hard at low revs. It can cause overheating in hot conditions if the viscous is not operating efficiently.

Absolutely. The way the box wad used initially would have loaded-up the cooling demand, but a healthy cooler would have coped. My point remains that I see a cooling system under threat.
