The engine is fitted with a manual gearbox, and following your suggestions, and after also speaking to other mechanics, I managed to loosen the pressure plate bolts through the little inspection hole in the bellhousing. Once this was done, it was easy to lift out the engine.
Now I am gathering some strength so that I can strip the block, and send it, together with the heads, for pressure testing, to see to what extent they are usable.
Maybe you have some thoughts on this. When removing both heads, the head gaskets were still in perfect condition, so it has been suggested that both heads cracked, and since the engine overheated, I should also check to see if there is damage to the block. Should I be looking at other aspects as well, or for other tell-tale signs of damage elsewhere?
