Hi Guys. I recently bought a 2006 Pajero 3.2 DID GLX LWB with 137 000km on the clock. Really clean one owner car. Car has full service history at Mitsubishi Sandton up to now. Id like some advice:
1. Vehicle is now due for 140 000km service and I was quoted R3500 for a basic filter/oil change/pollen filter service by Mitsubishi Menlyn. Is this more or less in line what I should pay?
2. When it comes to one day reselling the vehicle, what is important to a prospective buyer? A full service history (at any service provider), or full service history by dealers?
I have to work out if it is viable to keep servicing vehicle at dealers or have it serviced at a normal service provider (who I recon will be about 30% cheaper and I often think do a better job)

I reckon an unknown person buying your car would feel more at ease with a FSH with the dealers. It is very expensive though. That being said, it does not guarantee your car will receive the best quality work (form personal experience).
If you want to use a non-dealer workshop, make sure the guys keep good records of what they did and when. Here you can use the Pajero service schedule and let the service guy work according to that with eacj service done - tick the checklist as he goes along. Request records of these job cards and keep in a neat file along with all other expenses/work/extras you might have had done.
Make sure the non-dealer service guy is legit and knowledgeable, ask around for references.

When the warranty period / motor plan runs out I do my own intermediate services, brakes, etc. I take it to a good indy like Mitspro for timing belts, spark plugs, the occasional diagnostics, etc. I make a note in the sign the service book for the work I've done and sign it. In more than 10 car sale transaction this has never come up as a deal breaker ... and I always get better than trade (sometimes better than retail) when I sell my cars privately.

Not only am I on my 5th (used) Mitsubishi 4X4, but I also buy and sell used cars privately...hobby, obsession....call it what you like.
From my experience, on a 10yr old, low-to-average kms car, the difference between "out of warranty" services from a dealers vs private workshop is minimal! only about 1 in 5 buyers will pay attention, and if the car is neat, and the price is right, it would have been sold before the 3rd potential buyer comes to inspect...never mind the 5th one!
When it is important: late model cars(less than 5yrs old), OR very high mileage cars, like a 4yr old Golf I sold with 250 000kms.
So, on your 2006 Paj with 140k kms, in my opinion, no need for sleepless nights when you have it serviced elsewhere.
