My Pajero has a way of struggling to start every year or two.
I replaced at least about three starters (re-conned), including a new battery each time. Also bought new glow plugs and replaced the old ones. It gets expensive.
It happened last week again. I started by looking at the battery's terminals and earth cables etc. Then our mechanic walked by and noted that the battery was too small for the car.
The battery cant sustain the starter's load in the long run and thus needs to be replaced sooner - but in turn it also damages the starter when it becomes too weak to properly turn the starter quick enough. None of the dealers or battery fundis picked it up over the last 5 years.
So I went and bough the biggest battery I could find that will fit into my car - a tractor battery. Now the car wants to plant mielies.
Make sure you have the correct size battery in you Mitsu, even maybe one size bigger. Also dont buy a battery without at least a 2 year warranty.

Hi John, solid advice.
Even my petrol burner has the biggest, meanest battery I could fit under the bonnet. Dunno about planting mielies with it though

I currently have a 650S Willard in mine and have been reading some horror story's about the quality as of recently...

It surprises me that the dealers or mecanics never mentioned it. Here we changed all the Mitsubishi diesels from 75 or 80 AH to 105 AH.

I went through a bit of grief with hard starting on my previous car. Initially only when it was bitterly cold (like sub zero), and gradually more often in warmer temps as well. Replaced battery, reconditioned started, new solenoid, still persisted. It turned out that the ignition lock barrel pins were worn and had to be replaced. Problem solved!
