Hi there guys,
Can anyone advise me as to how far can I push my little orange fuel light on a Gen 3 3,2 DiD SWB?
I don't drive with a heavy foot at all - it would just be interesting to know how far I can expect to get on the reserve light before filling up...
Shot, Craig.
In my lwb, when the light comes on I can only put 70lt it. That leaves 20lt for reserve on my 90lt tank, and at about 8.5km/lt it equates to about 170km range.
The swb has a 69lt tank, drive it until the orange reserve light just comes on and fill up. You can then calculate the reserve capacity and then the range based on fuel consumption.
It is however not advisable to run your tank below 1/4 often due to part of the diesel being recycled back to the tank past the fuel pump and injectors for cooling purposes. This process heats the fuel up considerably in the tank due to the smaller volume left in the tank to dissipate the heat, and is apparently bad for the pump and injectors.

Hi Nick,
I agree with your point on low tank levels and heated diesel. Warm diesel loses lubricity.

I have heard about the extreme care needed with regards to the fuel pump. Hence my question. 80km is considerably further than I have pushed the yellow light in and around town. When I collected the car I pushed it about that, but it was on the open road on the way back from Durbs. Thanks for the feed back - good to know these things.JohnG wrote:The most i have pushed mine was 80km.Too scared to run it dry for the pumps sake
