After having another Hilux stolen I am toying with the idea of returning to a Paj (should never have sold my first one).
I have never been one for fancy and actually prefer older cars, my concern though is I don't know old Paj's. My first one was still pretty young at 140kkm when I sold it.
From high mileage perspective do you guys have any advice for buying and things to look out for/expect.
I'm shopping in the Gen 3 3.2 DID market mostly (because its what I know).
I'm not afraid of doing mods and mech work myself, although am not in the mood for fixer. Any advice would be most appreciated

What type of budget are you looking at? The gen4's are starting to get more affordable and are basically a facelifted gen3 with the same underpinnings and engine with some small tweaks, so if you know a gen3 then a gen 4 should also be easy to find your way around.
As you know the engines are pretty solid and mostly good for at least around 300000-400000kms.
I just recently bought a gen4 with 120000kms on the clock after selling my gen3 with 300000kms on the clock after it gave me hassles with the diesel pump and eventual engine overhaul just before I sold it.
If you are able to swing spanners you should be able to pick up a gen 3 at bargain prices but keep some budget aside for the diesel pump(around R40000) and possibly a new complete engine at some stage, between R40000 and R90000 depending on which route you take, and you should have a very capable and comfortable vehicle for many more years to come.

I recently purchased my 2005 Gen 3 SWB 3.2 DiD with 205 000 km on the clock. The vehicle was well cared for by it's previous owner and came with a full and complete service history. I've had it for about 6 months now and have put another 8 000 km on the clocks. It hasn't given me any problems whatsoever, and has handled everything from muddy and rocky terrain to sandy beaches.
My father had the Gen 3 LWB 3.2 DiD and sold it with about 340 000 km on the clocks. It was still running perfectly when he sold it, and I believe the guy that bought it made a few basic modifications and then took it on a 20 000 km pan Africa overland trip, without any problems at all.
