Guys,
My new SWB awaiting delivery within a couple of days has got Yokohama Geolanders fitted as from the factory (this is a new vehicle).
How capable are these tyres and will I be able to run relative low pressures when it comes to sand driving?. Envisage a Namibia trip shortly where most driving would be gravel and sand. I do not intend doing "rock or mountain" climbing, thus the question is if the standard tyres will be sufficient.
Awaiting comments,
Johan
All terrain or HT?

Johan,
We did our first trip in my Pajero in 2006 from Pretoria to the Richtersfeld, Namibia and Angola and back on the factory fitted Geolanders without any problem.
After the Richtersfeld we travelled to Aus, Soususvlei, then to Walvis Bay, Swakop, Sesriem, Opuwo, Ruacana and into Angola, all the way to Cunene mouth, Doodsakker and up to Lobango and back to Namibia Etosha, Windhoek and back home via the Kalaghadi. All the way without any tire problem. At times we were running a 1 bar pressure. These tires were eventually replaced with Yoki ATs.
Believe in them, Cloyd

Find out if they are the A/T's or the H/T's.
The A/T's are brilliant, I replaced my Duelers on my gen 3 SWB with them. Have had them down to 0.6 bar in Atlantis dunes and no issues. On gravel they are also great.
I replaced the duelers because of numerous tyre failure reports and very bad road noise. The Geolanders have impressed me so much that if I had to buy another 4x4 I would fit them ASAP. They're quiet on the road and provide great performance off road as well as gravel travel. They also have a two ply sidewall which is folded over (effectively giving a pseudo 4 ply sidewall) which gives great sidewall protection.
I recommend them highly.

I have the HT Geolander installed.
They run fine on sand and have driven them down to 10psi without problems. But they have a weak sidewall when it comes to punctures.
Already lost 2 of them because of sidewall punctures.

I bought my Gen 2 SWB with these tyres 30000km ago. Had one problem going into Die Hel when a stone damaged the carcass badly. I have Geolander ATs on my Paj Sport from new (now 30000 km as well). These tyres have done ALL the passes around the NE Cape & Sani area, Baviaanskloof on several occasions, & most recently the Kgalagadi. We did the dune road from Nossob across the Mata-Mata via Bitterpan deflated to 1.1 bar in a fully loaded vehicle. There are brands that perform better but rest assured they are outstanding tyres. In the two tests I read they ranked around mid-way in the field overall, with BFs coming last (or near last overall) on both occasions.
hi all,
i just purchased the 2012 exceed lwb, with the geolander g902 tyres.
well we are off to kgalagadi for december. we will stay in 2 rivieren, nossob and mata-mata.
here's the questions:
1. what can i expect from the roads?
2. i will be towing my sprite sw gravel road caravan - i was thinking of 1.2 bar frt, 1.5 bar rear and 1.5 bar on the caravan?
we will leave the caravan and travel some other routes as well.. - what will the recommended tyre pressure be?
best regards,
deon
any suggestions and advice will be appreciated...

Sound advice, if you want to enter in a BBBEE business venture? Think twice! Make sure your i's are dotted and t's are crossed
1.2 is perfect all round. The roads are shocking, be prepared for shake rattle and roll. Enjoy.
