Catalytic Converter
Hi Guys
I have a 2010 3.2 Pajero Sport.
Can a Catalytic Converter get clogged up?
If I remove the Catalytic Converter, will it shorten the Turbo Lag?
What will happen to my fuel consumption?

Happy Owner (except for the Turbo Lag... :D )
Regards
Re: Catalytic Converter
I removed the cat and installed a Kaufner Power Chip on my Triton 2.5did, the lag went from unbearable to almost non-existant with a huge power boost (but no effect on fuel consumption eithrt way).

The KPC was disconnected during a recent service and the old bad habits were immediately evident, so i think KPC was more likely the cure than removal of the cat.

100,000 trouble free km since installing KPC, so i would happily do it again.
Re: Catalytic Converter
I removed the CAT (or DPF I can never remember) on my 3.2 and cannot notice any difference. There is however a very strong diesel smell now so I wouldn't do it again given the choice. Mine was on 220,000km and the substrate still looked perfect.

Thanks MarkCouz and Gerbek1
Looks like it's not worth it, rather invest in a good chip.
Any proven suggestion out there for the 3.2?

Re: Catalytic Converter
I would say Steves Auto Clinic (SAC) are your best option for advice. I'm not at all sure what the best is but a reputable place is your best option. Don't go to fly by night places, the installation and tuning is the most important part (from what I have read and heard). Good luck!

Re: Catalytic Converter
Hi Flamingo

I have a 2005 SWB gen. 3 Pajero. A while ago I removed the CAT and the middle box. My diesel consumption was better by about 0.8km/l. But there where definately a improvement in power. Which makes sence to me cause: the turbo now has no resistance. It spins free flowing. I only have the hudge back box in now. I wanted to remove that one also but Supa Quick advised me against it. My personal oppinion is that diesel engines does not need boxes. Look at all our TLB's and other construction veacles. For me the turbo needs to have no resistance to let the gasses out. I also put in 2 stroke oil (200ml) per full tank to get all the injectors an clogging clean. Makes a good differance and has a nice beat to it now. Kills a little of that tractor sound ;) . The diesel smell that Gerbek1 is talking about is not noticable on mine. Maybe your Pajero is adjusted to rich gerbek1?

Now regarding the chip: there is somewhere a thread about this. Most of the guys recommend Dastec and Dastec only. Personally I havent installed one yet. Dont have the money now  . But they say that all the other chips either gives you more power but the diesel consumption is worse or both is better but after a while the engine goes to even a worst state than before the chip. So point being is that almost every one swears by Dastec and not a lot of people has had problems with them.

The other thing you can do is to block the EGR. Now the EGR surculates some of the exhaust gasses back into the intercooler and then the engine. Which in turn clogs up your intercooler and intakes. So this will also affect your power and diesel consumption. If you block the EGR make sure to give your intercooler and intakes a good cleaning and then you dont have to worry about that again.

Cheers
