I bought a very nice looked after 1800 petrol baby Pajero 2000 model with 155 000km 2 months ago to leave at my house at the coast where I go about 3 times a year for about a month at a time. I now like this little vehicle so much that I want to upgrade a bit. Want to buy a 2007 / 2008 SWB Pajero with reasonable mileage. The questions which I have is how do I decide between diesel or petrol? What would you recommend and why? I see pre-owned selling prices of the petrol is quite a bit lower than same year diesel models.
Depends how much you are going to drive. The petrol is much heavier on fuel, but is cheaper to service than the diesel. You also don't have to worry about diesel pumps, injectors, turbo, etc. It also has more woema but the diesel has more torque. You will get shorter range out of the 90 litre tank
I suspect that the running costs will overage out in the long term, unless you really drive a lot of kilos.
I prefer diesel though

I've had both. Different animals and yet so similar. What the one offers on the roundabout, the other offers on the swing.
My standard advice remains: find the best one for your budget and then find out which fuel type it requires.
