Overdrive hunting
Morning
I have a gen4 3.2, went to play at Atlantis dunes on the weekend. Used 4hlc and 4L in tiptronic mode, no hectic playing just general driving the slopes and no serious climbs.
My problem now is the vehicle hunts when in D, under load/ uphill.
Had the gearbox serviced with regular service 5000km ago, with no problems up till now.
Before the service it done it once on a previous occasion but went away.
Hope I have not hurt something inside the box
Thanks

Re: Overdrive hunting
Probably just your gearbox brain trying to adjust to your current driving style. Drive it for a week or so and see if it returns to normal.

Remember the autobox learns your driving style and then adjusts to it. If you take the battery off for a while it looses it's memory and starts to relearn from factory spec. Similarly if you gave it a good workout in the dunes with high revs in each gear on the tiptronnic side it will assume that this is now your new desired driving style and will adjust to it, but if you now start driving slowly on a Sunday drive on a flat open road it will be a bit confused and will seem to 'hunt' a bit as it tries to figure out what you want. It should soon catch on to the fact and be back to normal changeovers.

Like I said, just drive your normal style for a few days it should sort itself out.

For peace of mind check the gearbox fluid level and color as you had it serviced recently. Remember they need to be checked while the engine is on and idling on level ground and should be red in color with no burnt smell. Also I hope they filled it with the exact correct spec Mitsu gearbox oil. These boxes are a bit finicky on the oil they take and OEM work the best.

Re: Overdrive hunting
Thanks Cats
Your advise is spot on, seems to have sorted itself out.
Truly an intelligent gearbox, way above my paygrade!
Thanks for explanation
