Good day All
The ABS, both traction control and the handbrake lamps 'suddenly' lit up and stays lit while I am driving. These lamps do not light up while the vehicle is idling, only when the vehicle is moving. These lamps light up ±5 - 10seconds after starting the vehicle. The local mechanic mentioned that it could be the ABS pump that is faulty - fixing cost ±R 40k! Vehicle has ±222000kms on the clock. Any advice on solving this problem.
Thanks
My ABS pump motor packed up the other day, had it re wired by Casper zero 82 782188four. R2200.00
Thanks Casper. Good to know there are cheaper alternatives. Go well
Hi everyone
Thanks for the responses thus far - highly appreciated.
Just some more recent developments:
1. I took the SWB to a number of workshops for their opinions. The feedback came back as 1) a faulty ABS pump, 2) a faulty yaw rate sensor and 3) two faulty solenoids on the gearbox. Very comforting I must say.
2. In the mornings the 4 lamps (2x traction control. ABS and handbrake lamps) only light up one I have travelled ±10minutes. Thereafter these lams light up much sooner.
3. While the lamps are off, the ventilation fan functions 'normally' Once the lamps light up the ventilation fan speed increases as I accelerate and decelerate. Very odd if you ask me
4. While I was driving the vehicle over the weekend it felt at some stage that I drove over (through) a pothole in the road (big thud), even though there is no pothole or any unevenness in the road. I turned around to check, and low and behold, another thud. When the third thud occurred I looked down at the 4WD indicator lamps and the centre lamp was flickering orange. It stopped flickering soon after. This raised a few questions: a) what caused the thuds b) is there any relation between the 4WD and the lit traction control lamps
Your expert advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi André, your symptoms sound very similar to what I had two weeks ago, but I cannot point to the main cause.
So my voltage regulator packed up. Symptoms are the water temp, g/box temp, oil low and charging lights which are slow to clear after starting, and also come on while driving.
When these lights illuminated, my entire dash suddenly lit up. The abs/ esp/ handbrake lights illuminated, the ventilation fan went crazy, the centre diff light flashed, and the drive train made a thud and funny sound. Turn off and on again, and all we're fine until there was a voltage issue again and same thing happened. Even while idling after starting i saw the abs/esp/handbrake lights illuminated which cleared after restart. Everything you mention in your last post happened to me, except that you don't mention the symptoms for voltage regulator.
So something is throwing your ECU into error mode...I just cannot figure out what.
Sorry can't help pinpoint, but maybe through process of elimination we could find the problem.
Cheers

Gee DrBern, my vehicle sounds very similar to yours. I hope to have the vehicle checked tomorrow, and currently I have a list of ±6 or 7 possible 'infringements'. I will definitely post a reply once it is sorted - hopefully this year still!!
Go well

These are the lights that came on. It happened a few times, but was intermittent, then the next day it came on and ECU went into error.
