And, any luck with the above?

OK I feel like a total ass,

after checking "all" the fuses and not finding any fault I phoned a friend at Mercurius Motors for some advise, he said to bring the Paj in and they would check it with the computer. Got there and told the technician that I had gone thru all the fuses and could not find any fault, he connected the tester and found no fault and had to check all the fuses again. The FIRST fuse he checked in the engine bay was the hazard fuse AND you will not believe it, but it was blown (I'm SURE I checked it) He then replaced it and whola all's well.

Best of all it didnt cost me sent. Thanx for tha advise anyway guys

Lesson number one...

A visual inspection of fuses is not sufficient... glad you are sorted

PajeroMan,
If I were your wife I would now have said: "I told you so".

Good thing we are Pajero owners and have respect/sympathy for each other.

Glad it is sorted out.

Did the tech offer any comments on why the dash lights did strange things, when the hazards popped a fuse?

Re: Christmas Light Dash
Nope he said that this was the first case he had seen, he initially thought that it might have been the connection where the removable towbar's power connects to the car, but said he would check the fuses before going to the harness.

I'm just glad it's sorted, again thanx for the tips.
Re: Christmas Light Dash
The Gen 3's alternator uses external sensing to control the output voltage. The voltage is sensed from the hazard circuit. If that fuse blows, the alternator loses its voltage control feedback and the output voltage goes too high. This error condition is then sensed by other systems, which light the dash up as they turn their warning lights on. Running for too long in this state can severely damage the vehicle's battery.
