Thanks to Jaco for taking the initiative
Lets celebrate the Pajero Club's first Cape Outing at Ou Trekpad. This is intended as a meet and greet and not for hard core playing, so bring along the wife and family.
Other vehicles bearing the 3 red diamonds are also welcome.
Farm history
The farm De Kleine Zoute originated in the early 1700’s as a grazing and hunting outpost for the Dutch East Indian Company. Its original name “Aan her overzyde van de Kleine Zoute Rivier” literally means “on the other side of the little salt river”. The nick name Vaatjie was given to the farm in the late 1800’s, when one of the owners., a Mr.Schietekat, sunk a well at an overnight camping spot on the transport route that crossed the farm. He used a keg (Vaatjie) to prevent the sand from filling the well. Mr.Schietekat loved his sweet wine, which he bought in Paarl. The transport riders commented that the Vaatjie wells water had a nice “sweet wine” taste!
Ou Trekpad 4x4 trail
The 4x4 route is named after the old transport route that crossed the farm. The route was used by the sandveld and west coast farmers to transport their goods to, and purchases from Cape, Town.

WHAT TO BRING:
- Your own recovery gear. It is considered poor form to expect others to provide the gear should you get stuck. OTP has very soft sand which becomes a challenge when very hot.
- Your sense of humour.
- Food and drink for the braai afterwards. Note, alcohol while on the trail is unwelcome. Braai wood shall be provided. Bring a grid.
- Protection from the sun.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
- 29MHz or VHF radio. I have a VHF handheld I can loan out.
- Camera and Video Camera.
This depends on the number of vehicles we can string together. 10 Vehicles or more will get us R120 a pop, and less than 10 makes it R180 (and we don't have exclusive access to the lapa. So lets get the numbers up there.
If you intend joining us, please note your intention to do so here, and whether you have a radio or not, as well as your intention to have lunch afterwards (as well as numbers).
DIRECTIONS:
From the R27, heading north, turn right at the Melkbos traffic lights onto the M19. After 5.5km, just after the railway line, turn left onto the R303 (Reygersdal Road). After 4.9km, turn left at the entrance gate (It is well signposted), and go under the railway line and follow the signs. From the N7 heading north, turn left onto the M19. Reygersdal road is 2.9km on the right. If you cross the railway you've gone too far.
Final time will be decided later.
