Gen 2 15" wheels
I have recently bought a 2800 intercooler swb 1998 model (gen 2?) :D . It has Yokahama Geolander A/T - S 215/80R15 102s tyres. I read in the manual they should be 235/75R15 or 31x10.5 R15. Has anyone any opinion on the pros and cons of the existing v recommended tyres? Searching the forums I see no opinions on Yokahama tyres, are they not good or just unusual?
Thanks,
John

Re: Gen 2 15" wheels
I think Geolanders are fairly good tyres, don't think there are any issues with them. They are unusual as you say and are a bit pricey last time I checked.

I think the Pajero comes standard with 31s or 265 /70 R15. Your current tyres are quite thinner which will problably give you improved consumption on road over standard tyres but might lack a bit off road and loose grip easier than a wider tyre. Personally I am more comfortable with a wider tyre which gives better handling off and on road. I'd upgrade to at least 245/70 or 30x9.5 when opportunity arrives.

Go with 31x10.5/15... they are much more widely available, cheaper and increase ground clearance a smidgen (every bit helps)

Hankook and GY Wrangler AT tyres run about R1200 - R1300

I had geolanders on my Gen 3 here in Abu Dhabi and they were REALLY noisy on the tar, I have had a couple of gen 4s on hire with geolanders and these were the same - sounded like the wheel bearings were buggered. When I changed mine (less than 20 000) because I could not stand them anymore my Pajero was as quiet as a Rolls Royce.

Be careful of generalisations. There are many types of Geolandars. Many Gen3s (mine included) came standard with Geolandar GO39 tyres as standard. These tyres are very quiet. I currently have Geolandar ATS all terrain tyres on the Gen 3. They have given me excellent service over 90000 km and are not quite done yet. They have been quiet, have surprising traction in the rough (OK maybe not quite so great now at 90000km  ) and are great on tar too. I would gladly fit Geolandar ATS again, but they are not cheap. I am aware that the older Geolandar AT tyres did tend to generate heel-and-toe wear and did become noisy.
