OOPS, sorry Andre, havn't been on the Pajero forum for a while & missed this, here are some photies. As you will see, the recovery point is right next to the jacking point and directly in line with the chassis. final step is to re-enforce the mounting points of the towbar.

I understand what you are saying, but I would urge you to look at other alternatives as well. One that comes to mind for some reason is the Nissan Patrol . Patrols are also available for not a lot of money and they are engineered and built the Japanese way (read thoroughly), just like the Pajero, but just with a somewhat more severe duty cycle in mind. Get a good old 4.5 petrol or 4.2 diesel Patrol and enjoy durability and reliability .

Personally I don't understand the fetish of spending an absolute fortune on repairing vehicles to do the BTDTGTTS type trip. If that was me I'd be facing divorce.

The Gen 3 is very capable in the rough and its mechanicals are also very robust, but these vehicles do suffer from cosmetic damage rather more easily than some others, when used in the real tough stuff.

It seems Andre is saying that he wants to add a toy to his fleet meant for playing rough. The objective is to have a vehicle that does not require cosmetic repairs after such an excursion, while still retaining the Paj, being the great all-rounder that it is. The toy might also require some modification to fill its role.

Gerrit has it spot on. I am just adding a toy my fleet, with SWAMBO's permition!!!! I can get the Defender for a bargain(family rates ) so it's definately a worthwhile buy. Can always sell it for more...... It's already kitted, snorkel, OME, and being a station wagon it has a cool drawer system fitted with a bed on top of it. Roof rack Long range etc....

If only strip the extra's I'll get moe than I will be paying for it. Everything has been done to te tdi motor that has to be done EGT and so on.

Gerrit I was also looking at an alternative to the Defender, 60 series Cruiser, Patrol, 1997 odd LWB as I had, but the tdi's consumption makes mince meat of all the other vehicle's I was looking at. The Pajero gave me an average of 19.96(4x4 and abot 1200km of tar road) l/100 while's the defender gave almost half of this.

I love my Pajero and will still be using her for the fundi challenge and all other day trip 4x4ing, The landy will become our trip vehicle.

And as I said on this trip, Land rover has been making mechanic's out of normal since 19??..

My Brother in Law swears by his landy's, he has 4, two 110 bakkies the 110 station wagon and a Disco 3 V8. And from left field a new Jeep wrangler Unlimited.

I think my main push as well is the simplicity of the defener, if I had any problems with ,y pajero on this trip I would have been stuck, too many Electronics for this kind of trip. We are also planning a loooong trip next year to namibia and the shorty for three people just won't cut it.

For now I think I can also rationalise anything just to not hurt Swart Skapie like that again....

And don't worry, I won't be turning up with a landy at a Pajero get together...

I dont know what you okes did on this river trip??? I did it two years ago when my baby was 6 weeks old. Sure, got plenty of mud and a few scratches that polished out easy enough.... That trip should be a stress breaker not a vehicle breaker

Anyways, dont matter what car you do such a trip in, it will have its pros n cons. the heavier the vehicle (LR, Patrol, Cruiser) the more need for speed through that sometime seriaaaasly slushy sand). The more speed, the more inertia for the vehicle to do something else to what you want.... and so it goes on.

I went with the Gen 4 places all the others went. Then again, its a river. Always unpredictable. Good that your Paj didn't let you down. some nice pics

The pajero ewas awesome, she actually gives you such a sence of "security", but I felt soooo bad for her, I don't mind scratches, they add character, but this trip was really bad for her. the scratch I had on the left side from Rust de winter looks like a pen mark compared to the rest.

I think the fact that she's black makes it worst....
