Hi Guys,

I am SPEECHLESS

I must at this point say, a lot of you are being ripped of, or I'm just really lucky,

I had both front bearings done end of last year, and togethr cost me under R600.

When I started looking around for a full set of spares, I got this quote from the agents.
all 4 for R2,600.

No, never actually went ahead and bought them, as even for the four, R2600 was a bit steep for me, I'll eventually get around to it when I gear up for overlanding.

1 thing has just occurred to me though, what generation are we talking about, coz obviously mines a Gen 2,
according to the dealers, the Gen 2s share same bearings as the pre 2000 / 2002 (something like that)
3.5 L (I think colt bakkies.)
Could be why theyre cheaper.

The part numbers are on the quote I attached,
LLMB..... and LLMR..... numbers.

Allthough, these are dealer part numbers,

I'm still trying to get a comparison from Bearing man, but we cannot find the right codes, so short of taking my actual bearings to them, they cannot find the right bearings using the codes.

The Gen 3 is different to the older Pajies in that the front wheel bearings are integral parts of the hub assembly. They are not designed to be replaced separately, so when the wheel bearings have to be replaced, the intention is that the entire hub assembly gets replaced. I am not aware of anyone that has managed to disassemble and reassemble the unit successfully...

So THAT explains the high price, which the 'lady' at the dealer failed to explain to Nodger, it makes sense that a sealed unit
that is the HUB, is not the same as a wheel bearing, I think had someone at the dealer mentioned this, it would make sense, as it does now.

Sealed unit it may be, call it a hub if you like, its still a lot of moola for a bearing within a housing....

I got one of my "old rear" bearing units at home. lemme see what I can do

I've had both my rear bearings replaced. This was under warranty though. so, lets see whats inside.

That would be interesting, Kai. The setup at the back is very similar to the front. Let us know what you find.
