Finally I got the car back. Invoice merely says stripped and serviced ECU so very little to go on from there. I spoke with one of the auto-electricians that says that there was a short inside the ECU, which was caused by normal wear and tear leading to the wires somehow shorting. This doesn't make much sense to me, I expect that everything is on a PCB with little chance of shorting, but then again I don't really know much about the electrics of these cars. In the end I am glad to have my car on the road again, but a little dissapointed because I don't know if I can really trust what I am being told.
Next time I need to take the car in for a service I will definately use one of the mechanics that has been recommended on these forums.
Kind Regards,
Conrad
Hi Brian
What a relief to read your story - as that is exactly what happened to me - and you know a fundi that is able to help me. I am in Tarangire national park and travelling back from Dar with my vehicle I had the misfortune of putting in fuel that was not clean - first 400km no problem last 400km took nearly 20 hours. Please could you supply me with details of your fundi so that I am able to contact him.

Brian ,
I just joined this forum. I hope your Pajero is still running.
I am living in Tanzania, precisely Dar es Salaam and I have a pajero 6G74 engine which I have parked due to a problem similar to the one you had. Would you be kind enough to pass me the contacts of your ingenious mechanic who helped you sort out your problem. No one around here seems to know how to gor round it. I have been to numerous mechanics with disheartening results.

I am new in this forum and also a new Pajero owner.
Mine is a 2002 3.5 GDI and all my friends and colleagues (but all!) warned me about the same issue - low quality petrol causing this "mysterious" loss of power when running.
We leave in Maputo and make often long distance trips. Although I love Pajero (coming from a country where they are very popular) it would be impossible even thinking getting stacked between Maxixi and Beira or between Chimoio and Tete...
As admitted before please give me the dummy credit and trust I will learn fast. I have a few questions:
From what I read the Low Quality Fuel - Power Loss problem has been fixed from Production by Mitsubishi Corporation starting from December 2001.
Would that mean a Jan 2002 manufactured Pajero has got this fix?
What preventative measures can we take against bad quality fuel out of South Africa (Moz for instance)?
What service station would you recommend in Mpumalanga for the GDI Gen 3 engines?
Thanks all for the shared information!
I am really very grateful.

Hi.
Can someone confirm a fix for this issue, looks like I may have same issue. Did the dealer fix resolve the issue?
Thx
