Sorry to be the party-pooper / wet blanket.
I enquired a while ago from Planet World regarding a similar (exactly the same) unit for my Touareg.
After a few e-mails, I terminated my communications with Dean (euphemism for sending him on his way).
My concerns were:
- Does this product not have a brand name?
- Country of origin?
- I could not find any proof on the Garmin web sites that this is a Garmin product, as is alluded to in his ads.
- It seems to be a Windows CE 5 device, which makes it possible to run Garmap
- Questions about the installation of Garmap Map sets and T4A went unanswered
- Questions about Garmap licence fees etc went unanswered
The price is comparable to a well-known brand name product such as the
Kenwood DNX9140, which is supported by Garmin (on their web site)

Hmmm. Also been reading a bit on the weekend, but from a slightly different angle ...
Have a look at this as an example ...
http://www.stopshop.co.za/1992-buy-mits ... i003-.html
Yes, I know it is a Chinese knockoff, but then again all Apple's latest gadgets are "designed in California, made in China". And at R 5770 all in (or R 5970 including a rear bumper or plate camera) from a local supplier, supposedly offering some sort of backup. That's less than half the price! Or if you feel lucky you could import direct for half again. It probably doesn't support T4A (big drawback), but appart from that I'm curious how much worse it is than the Garmin or Kenwood models (if at all).
Your thoughts?

I don't know about double dins but I have seen a chinese frontloader versus JVC on gravel.
The difference is night and day.
The JVC never jumped once in my jetta and the cheapie barely played the CD at all.
I would rather get a lower spec but a higher quality IMHO.

I am currently looking to replace the std Pajero radio and CD system on my 2006 3.2 DID.
The std CD shuttle is no longer working and giving an error code 004.
The dealers want +-R6k for a replacement and 2nd unit hand I can get for +-R2.5k.
I would rather buy a Sony or Kenwood front loader with mp3 and bluetooth etc for around R2K but will require the wiring diagram / colour codes for the std Pajero radio to match to the new radio harness.
Can anyone help me with this info please?

Ejay,
Are you absolutely convinced that your problem isn't just a loose plug in the back of the unit?

Hi Guys
I have not been around for a while so let me not just jump in and asking questions right away.
So let me first start with some comment. I bought one of the StopShop radio's for my Prado and so far not too many complaints. For the price I paid ( less then R 4500 including import duties and camera but at a time when the ROE was a bit better then now) I think it is a decent unit. The bundled GPS software (IGO8) is a pirated version which I found out after trying to do map upgrades. In any case a legal version now goes for R 999.00 at StopShop, but I found cheaper options locally and even found a free software package called NavigatorFree or something like that but I still use the bundled IGO8 and the maps are actually quite good even in the platteland. Other then that there is one or two menu functions that could navigate easier but other then that nothing to complain about. My wife loves the camera but I only use it when I need to line up the car to a trailer to hitch.
Now for my question.
A friend of mine is considering a 3.2DID SWB for his wife. They drove one car so far and was impressed by it. We were talking about replacement radios and that lead me to start wondering about the LCD display.
IIRC there was some of the functionality on the LCD compass/trip meter that was controlled from buttons on the radio. Cant remember what it was but the issue is how do you get it to work without the standard head unit. Is there any trick or do you loose the LCD's functionally partially or totally? I guess in a Gen 3 you can install about any double din radio you do not need anyone made specifically to fit the hole in the dash or am I wrong? Have anyone of you installed an after-market radio in your Gen 3s yet?

I have installed a sony frontloader in my 2001 Gen3 3.2 Di-D
I have the black and white display though. Just the radio station that used to show on the LCD is missing. The date, A/C controls and thermometer still works beautifully.
