I eventually found some pics CATS took of his engine management module in his GEN3 on the 4x4 community website, looks like the only viable mounting option without cutting up the whole dash
Thanks,

Here it is, took a while to find first time round though!

Looks a bit out the way (I could do without the ashtray), however the alarm should make up for the placement. With some planning, more displays could be added, not sure if the Gen4 dash has the same size ashtray though. I belive the Madman unit is made by the same people who make the MGL avionics unit
I have just ordered my madman unit, will be here in a couple of days!

I agree. The EGT is not at ideal level when placed at the ashtray level like mine, especially not when newly fitted and one would like to keep a constant eye on the new info awwarded to you
. But as you get used to the reading you start to relax and trust the alarm to inform you when something is wrong, which I have never had by the way, as you tend to astart knowing when/how to use the loudpedal to manage EGT.

Hi all.
I have just recieve my madman EMS2 unit
, am going to monitor the engine oil pressure, coolant temp and presence, and auto box ATF oil temp. I will be installing the unit over the weekend. (In the ashtray compartment - Thanks CATS!)
I have figured out where and how to mount all the sensors, except the auto box temp sender. Has anyone done this, and if so is there bung or unused port that i can just screw the VDO sensor into?
Any ideas, suggestions will be much appretiated.

Hi
Thought I would post some pics of the unit:
Coolant monitoring:
The inline fitting gets spliced/cut into the top radiator hose, the stainless stell machine screw is for measuring the prescence of coolant (works on a AC current), and the other threaded hole is for the VDO 50 - 150 deg C temp sender unit.
Oil Pressure monitoring:
The oil pressure sender unit (VDO 0-10 bar) screws into a brass 'T' fitting wich allows the OEM oil pressure switch to still remain fitted/attached to the motor and work, I will seal them with locktite (blue).
ATF temp monitoring:
Here is the rub, I orginaly though I would want to monitor the engine oil temp, but have since decided to rather monitor the ATF in the auto box's temperature. I am not sure if the supplied adaptor will work in the auto box, as it is a M14 x 1,5 screw thread designed for the engine oil sump plug...

I started yesterday morning fitting the madman to my Gen3.
Here are some photos.
I cut the top radiator hose and fitted an inline plastic fitting that accepts the coolant temperature sender and coolant presence probe.
I then removed the oil pressure switch (note this switch does not give pressure readings, it merely switches off the idiot oil light on the dash when a prescribed oil pressure is achieved - at approx 30kPa in the 3.5 v6 very low!). I then fitted a brass 1/8" tee to allow me to fit a 10bar VDO pressure sender unit as well as the OEM pressure switch.
I then pulled the wire loom through from the dash and through a rubber boot in the firewall on the passenger side, and connected to all the sender units. I was sure to ground the unit on the block of the engine to ensure accurate readings, as even small voltage differences between engine block and chassis will give inaccurate readings as the sensors work on low voltage.
I then stripped the centre console to fit the unit where the ashtray was situated (never use the ashtray).I tapped power for the unit from the cigarette lighter positive, as this is activated from the ignition switch. It uses a tiny amount of power (30 mA at 13.8 volts), so the fuse should be fine.
I am going to install the oil temperature sender into the auto box sump plug, I have an adaptor the fits the M14x1,5 thread of the sump plug (which is the same as the engine sump plug), but I will only do so when I flush the auto box as per 4epikanini's post, however the wiring is pulled through to the sump plug already.
Finally I am going to cut a piece of supawood (will be sprayed matt black) to fit into the now open ashtray enclosure to fit the madman in, I am also leaving space for a single pole double throw toggle switch to allow me to monitor two oils temperatures/pressures if I want to in the future.

Hi Guys
Ive been following your conversation and trying to make out where we going .A ha it sounds like you guys are on the ball regarding all the engine management systems ect, on our most valuable Pajeros.
I am going on a +- 4500km trip with abunch of friends from baviaanskloof to twescoast and to springbok and back to Tsitsikama.
would you recoment to fit one of the EGT systems to make sure everything goes well, and if so where can i get hold of the unit and what is the cost implications.I am sorry to bother you guys but i am still trying to get my footwork in place in looking after my pajero.(New in the game)
Regards
wally
And thanks for the interesting discussions daly
