Per RoefleRoux - define facelift.

A friend of mine has a manual DI-D LWB 2001 GLS and I have auto DI-D LWB 2002 GLS.

The 2001 has body coloured backs to wing mirrors, body coloured separators on rear light clusters and the monochrome info display.

The 2002 has chrome backs to wing mirrors, chrome separators on rear light clusters and colour info display.

I think they both have rear diff lock - not TC.
Both have rectangular fog lights up front.
Neither have sunroof / neither have CD shuttle.
Both have 16 inch rims.

Note the fog lights, bumpers, rear tail lights and grill.

Besides the bumpers, also check out the "stone guards" on the bottom part of the door(s). Pre- are ribbed and Post- are smooth.
I also think that a sunroof was an option, therefore it is not year model specific.
I also wonder about the chrome. My car has even got chrome on the grille besides the mirrors and tail lights...

I agree with your "many subtleties" comment.
The big differences from 2000 to 2003 were: light arrangements front and rear - including the round foglights.
The 2003 had the 6 disc shuttle in the dash and the much larger and more comprehensive colour console display.
By 2006 the T/C and sunroof was added and the 3.5V6 made way for the 3.8V6. By 2006 the beige leather was pretty common in the GLS models. The 17" rims were also fitted to the post 2003 Pajeros

I bought a new 2004 in June and was told that it was a new facelift model.
This car for the first time had:
Traction control and Stabilty control
Round fog lamps
Solid smooth tail lamps
Blue display in the dash
Restyles side protection
Restyled grill
New style 16" Rims
The three diamonds logo was changes from red to chrome.

The importerd batch of cars that included mine was the only batch that came out with two batteries. (I believe it was an order specification slip-up)

The sunroof came in 2005 together with a white background to the speedo cluster as apposed to black and 17" inch wheels.
From reading the suspension thread it seems that this batch also had minor changes to the coil spring base.

My Pajero is a 2004 but it has a sunroof but still the black instrument background and 16" wheels. It seems as if Mitsubishi made a number of changes between 2003 and 2006.

Can I fit the front bumper with the round spotlights (+-2004) onto the 2000 model 3.2 lwb? Is the bracketry and mounting points the same?

I have no specific knowledge on the subject, but will be surprised if the production line tooling had changed during that period. So typically one would find the mounting points would not have changed.

Nick - You could ask one of the ARB fitment centres if its the same ARB model for both - if it is then most likely the same.
