Hi Marius,
Could this be done to 3.5 Blister as well Auto?
Interesting things you come up with, you should go design vehicles for a living.

I suspect yes. Most autoboxes have a mechanical mechanism where the line pressure can be adjusted. I think the latest and greatest may be electric and may also be monitored so you can't fiddle.

I have no idea where to do it on the gen2 though. Will have to find the manual for it.

I'd have loved to do mechanical engineering, maybe one day when funds allow, or a manufacturer offers an apprenticeship. Sadly this is all personal experience and not work experience.

I have tried the following methods with no success in saving fuel.

Full length bash plate for improved airflow
Cleaned out intercooler
Blocked EGR
Wastegate spacers to add a bit of boost
Advanced the diesel pump
Full fluid change of autobox, transfer and diffs
Checked rotating parts for binding
Swirly thing in intake removed
Pumped tyres a bit harder
Drive slower
Drive faster
Torque converter LockUp kit (helped a tiny bit)
Cleaned intake manifold
Free flow exhast
Catalytic converter delete

But a few weeks ago I upped the automatic gearbox's line pressure by about 14psi. (2.75 turns Anti Clockwise)

I have now done 426km and the needle sits here.

These miles include a morning's dune work and some light off roading valuating a farm. It usually was at 300km when halfway doing mostly highway work.

I believe the reason for this is that the clutches are pretty old (nearly 300'000km) and may have some excessive slippage that wastes energy and creates heat and wears the clutches even further. The pump may also not put out the pressure required due to age and the previous owner neglected the auto fluid which was brownish. Upping the line pressure makes the clutches engage firmly again. I have noticed since upping the line pressure that the gearchanges are more pronounced when accelerating hard but none of the smoothness has been lost. The factory torque converter lockup occurs easier now as well - I presume due to more power reaching the wheels and not being lost in slippage in the box.

I realise that my box may have seen better days but with 2 flushes in the last year and the line pressure upped a bit now I should get good life out of it. Some tow with it for thousands of miles without issues so I guess it's a tough box. The last time I dropped the sump the magnets in the sump were pretty clean so I'm not too stressed.

I'll try to give more feedback here as time moves on or just note today's date and check my fuelly in a few months time.
Marius,

Sal jou torque converter lockup kit werk op my 2010 LWB 3.2 DID?

How is looking so far with the consumption?

I have been driving harder than usual and my last tank included 2 offroad trips and I returned 13l/100km which is about 1l/100km less than usual when driving sedately without off road trips.

Filled up 2 days ago so will report on this tank when it's finished as well.

Sure sounds like its better! Please report back.

Re: 3.2 Di-D Fuel economy saving at last. A/T Line Pressure
It didn't do much to the consumption but the power was up.

I recently increased the A/T line pressure and that made about a 0.7l/100km saving.

I have now

- removed intake swirly thing
- serviced all fluids and filters
- cleaned intank diesel filter
- greased all UJs
- advanced the pump
- delete EGR
- installed long length bashplate for airflow
- delete CAT
- Fit freeflow instead of big center silencer box
- Manual torque converter lock up override switch - I sell them on Pajeroclub.co.za
- double checked wheel alignment and pressures
- turned up the boost with the wastegate spacer mod
- serviced injectors

I can't think of anything else and all this so far has upped the performance of the car but made very little difference to the economy.

I have called it quits and I am now living with the economy until I can find a good condition Touareg R5 or V6 TDi in my budget or get a Chip-It chip from Australia with Map intrervention. (I have driven a Gen4 GLX Auto recently and I was a bit dissappointed with the performance and noise - mine is quieter and pulls stronger - see video below )

Towed it low range 1st gear with rear diff lock. I reckon it was a 5ton pull at least (The tractor alone weighs over 2 tons - Note the heavy trailer with full load of gravel.

Re: 3.2 Di-D Fuel economy saving at last. A/T Line Pressure
Hi All,

I would like to try adjusting the A/T pressure on my 3.2 SWB Pajero as described in this forum, to improve fuel economy. Does anyone have figures on improvements in fuel economy over a longer term than mentioned in this thread? My vehicle has just over 200000 km on the clock and is significantly thirstier than the 2.5 4x4 Ford Ranger it replaced. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on other improvements / modifications that can aid fuel economy.

I am considering installing a Dastec unichip and bigger intercooler in the hope that this would improve the consumption, but have concerns that the intercooler may not be compatible with the replacement steel bumper an winch setup I plan to install later this year. I know from experience that more power = more fun and subsequently results in poor fuel consumption....but I will consider this anyway as I only get to drive it on weekends when I can prey the keys away from my wife.

Any advice would be appreciated.
