Hi strange question to ask on a Pajero forum. Perhaps forums like 4x4 Community will have a more of an unbiased appraisal. For me, well Pajero of course. Taking into consideration that you buying someting that has not even run in is a no brainer, The Toyota owners will obviously have a different opinion.

Pajero without a doubt.... I've had mine for 3 years now, fully kitted out, travelled extensively with it to the bush both in SA and beyond border. It's seen some pretty rough terrain, it's black, slowly turning white from all the scratches and not once on any of our trips has it given us any problems whatsoever.... The only issue we've had so far, touching wood, is a blown fuse. They are very underrated vehicles!

Pajero is a go! Won't regret it. You can place the a extra long range tank in the stowing space for the third row of seats.

Looks like a bargain!

Had a similar dilema in 2012 and, eventually for much of the reasons stated above, bought a 3.2 DiD SWB Exceed. Space is obviously my big irritation but I just love the SWB looks versus the LWB. The handling of the SWB is also exceptional - often opts for the Pajero when I can use my BMW 3.5 X-drive, which is renowned for its great handling attributes. Said to my wife again yesterday (after returning from Mapungubwe with very rough game viewing roads and then on the N1 back) that it is the best motor vehicle I have ever had!

Was that you in the silver SWB towing an offroad trailer / camper that passed me (2002 LWB offwhite) on the morning of 22nd April when I pulled over to take some pics by ZZ2 at Rhodesfield?

We really enjoyed Mapungubwe: the campsite, the eco trail and the drives in the eastern side of the park.

No Andrew, I have got a white one and towing a Bushlapa. Would love to go camping at Mapungupwe though - where is the entrance? and what is the camp like? how do you get to the eastern part of the park? we were at Leokwe Camp on could not manage to find a road leading to the camp site?

It is hard for a newcomer to Pajero's to understand the Specs. attributable to Models based on Mitsubishi Info. !!

I was about to commit a large amount of money for an 3.2 Exceed when I discovered that it does not have a Rear Diff Lock, neither does the GLX. The GlS has it But is under specked in other areas.

The Sales folk also seem short on Knowledge. No space for long range tank. Lift Max 50mm, then when pushed to give me details of what Mitsubishi will allow as Accessories, told No its 20mm. Still waiting for Approved changes allowed under Warranty ??

I have been fortunate to have driven and/or owned Pajero, Prado, Patrol and Discovery. When I came to replace my Disco last year, I went back to Pajero GLX with no modifications. IT had the whistle and bells that I enjoy, it is comfortable and it's off road capabilities are up there with the rest of them. I must admit that I do not do the serious off roading driving, where some serious modifications would be needed, but that will also be for all the vehicles. I spent 15 years in Africa and on some real horrific roads. All the vehicles preformed well. LAndrover does have an issue with spares in some regions, ie West Africa. Look at what you want to do with your vehicle. Will it be used soley for off road or also as the family vehicle with the occasional off road trip. Enjoy.

I am not sure if anyone still makes a LR tank for the Gen4 Pajero, I have asked around Cape Town and not had any success. Frontrunner no longer manufacture the tanks. This is a matter of concern for me too as I am thinking of replacing my 2006 Gen 3 with a newer model.
