I have installed an EGT - I always wait for it to get to idling temp before I switch off the Paj. On a hot day it can feel like forever to wait, especially when you are in a rush, but all worth that couple of extra minutes.

That is sound practice for all cars, not only turbo diesels. The owner's handbook on my 1989 Golf GTi 16V said the same. After a hard run, they advised a short idling period. That model was fitted with an oil temp read-out. It was amazing how quickly the oil temp would come down while idling.

I do however think that your practice is "good house keeping" and a wise thing to do, but a white hot turbo, at a million revs, MUST get an opportunity to slow- and cool down.

PS: I accept that the turbo is possibly not "white", but I don't know how to spell "blerrie" and the other words that come to mind should not be posted in the public domain.

PS2: I also accept that the turbo most probably doesn't spin at a million revs, but it is easier to type "million" than "a few hundred thousand"
