Peter,

Electronic controls go a long way towards countering the "bad" aspects of a tyre. Some of the aspects not covered by electronics will be noise and punctures.

I have the stock standard Yokohama Geolander G902 on my 2015 SWB. I am doing a trip through Namibia from south, via Fish River canyon, Sesriem to Swakopmund and Henties and back through Botswana. How robust are the Geolanders for the Namibian dirt roads? Do I have to take an extra tyre (casing only) on the roof rack or are replacement readily available if I loose a tyre? I take it somebody will be able to fit my tyre if need arises.

I plan to change brand when tyres needs replacement so not too keen to purchase new Geolander just for in case! Anybody perhaps have a reasonable thread tyre willing to part with?

Thanks guys.

Tobie

Hi Tobie, I sent you a whatsapp. I cant comment on the strength of the Yokohama but I think they will be as good as any AT tyre for your trip. Enjoy!

Thanks Kurt! (My dash is still 200% - and have done some rough roads)

General Grabbers are brilliant. Bought a set after reading a tyre shoot-out in one of the 4x4 mags. Not at all disappointed. Rated best AT tyre, overall. The American tyre brands did not fare well in the shoot-out, but they do have their place in certain situations.
